LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

@ Worcester (3/27):

The Manchester Monarchs grabbed an early lead and held on to defeat the Worcester Sharks, 3-1, at the DCU Center on Wednesday night. Defenseman David Kolomatis, right wing Brandon Kozun and defenseman Vincent LoVerde tallied goals for the Monarchs. Left wing Peter Sivak scored the lone goal for the Sharks. Monarchs netminder Martin Jones (21-22-4) earned his 21st victory of the season making 40 saves on 41 shots including 19 saves in the third period. Sharks netminder Harri Sateri (14-16-3) took his 16th loss of the season stopping all 25 shots faced. Sharks goaltender Thomas Heemskerk (0-0-0) made saves on all nine shots he faced in relief of Sateri. Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Worcester went 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

@ Portland (3/29):

The Manchester Monarchs brought a tied game into the third period but fell to the Portland Pirates, 6-3, in game 11 of the VIP Cup, presented by VIP Tires and Service, at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Friday night. The Pirates lead the rivalry series 6-5. The winner of their next match-up will be crowned the inaugural VIP Cup Champions. The Monarchs received goals off the sticks of left wing Tanner Pearson and center Linden Vey (two). Portland registered goals from center Evan Brophey (two), right wing Chris Brown, left wing Chris Conner, right wing Nick Johnson and center Brendan Shinnimin. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (21-23-4) took his 23rd loss of the season making 30 saves on 35 shots. Pirates netminder Mark Visentin (13-11-1) earned his 13th victory of the season stopping a 42-of-45 shots faced. Manchester went 0-for-2 on the power play. Portland went 2-for-6 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Providence Bruins (41-21-0-5) sit in first place in the Atlantic Division with 87 points. The Portland Pirates (37-25-3-2) are in second place in the division with 79 points. The Manchester Monarchs (31-29-3-4) rank third in the division with 69 points. The Worcester Sharks (29-28-2-6) are in fourth place in the division with 66 points. The St. John's IceCaps (29-33-1-4) sit in fifth place in the division with 63 points.

The Monarchs are 15-17-1-1 on the road and are 16-12-2-3 at home this season.

Manchester is 14-6-0-0 overall when they play on a Saturday this season.

The Monarchs had their nine-game point streak (7-0-1-1) snapped in a 3-0 loss on Saturday, March 16.

Manchester snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-4 comeback victory over the Hershey Bears on Saturday, March 23.

The Monarchs finished the season 4-0-0-0 when playing the IceCaps in St. John's this season. Manchester has a six-game winning streak in St. John's dating to the 2011-12 season.

The Monarchs played in their 1,000th game on Saturday, February 16 against the IceCaps.

The Monarchs are third in the American Hockey League when faced with a penalty kill on the road (86.2%).

Center Linden Vey (20-41=61) leads the team with 41 assists and 61 points.

Vey's 61 points rank third in the AHL.

Vey's 41 assists rank third among league skaters.

Vey appeared in his 100th AHL game (all with the Monarchs) on Saturday, December 15 against the Adirondack Phantoms.

Vey tallied his 100th professional point with an empty goal against the Bears on Saturday, March 23.

Vey had a nine-game assist and point streak (1-13=14) end on Saturday, January 19. Vey's nine-game assist streak set a Monarchs franchise record.

Vey is the only Monarchs player to appear in all 67 of the team's games this season.

Vey has 41 points (13-28=41) in his last 39 games.

Vey had a six-game point streak (3-6=9) snapped against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday, February 23.

Vey leads the team with 12 power play assists.

Vey is third on the team with 20 goals.

Right wing Tyler Toffoli (28-20=48) is tied with right wing Brandon Kozun (24-24=48) for second on the team with 48 points.

Toffoli was named the Monarchs representative on the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Classic Roster on Thursday, January 17. Toffoli registered a goal and an assist in a 7-6 loss for the Eastern Conference in the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Game on Monday, January 28.

Toffoli tallied his second hat trick of the season and second against the Pirates in a 5-3 victory on Saturday, December 22.

Toffoli has 10 goals in 10 games against the Pirates this season, which also leads all VIP Cup skaters.

Toffoli leads the team and AHL rookie skaters with 28 goals this season.

Toffoli's 28 goals are also tied for fourth place among league skaters.

Toffoli's 48 points are tied for first place in the league among rookie skaters.

Toffoli leads the team with six power play goals and three shorthanded tallies this season.

Toffoli has eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in his last 17 games.

Toffoli leads the team with 172 shots on goal this season.

Toffoli also leads the team in plus/minus with plus-20.

Toffoli was recalled to the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday, March 10 and made his NHL debut Saturday, March 16 against the San Jose Sharks.

Kozun is ranked second and third on the team with 24 goals and 24 assists, respectively.

Kozun has 13 goals in his last 16 games.

Kozun leads the team with six game-winning goals this season.

Kozun tallied game-winning goals against the Sharks on Saturday, October 27, against the Binghamton Senators on Sunday, October 28, against the IceCaps on Wednesday, November 7, versus the Bruins on Saturday, January 19, against the IceCaps on Friday, February 15 and versus the Sharks on Friday, February 22.

Kozun's six game-winning tallies rank tied for third in the league.

Kozun has 67 career tallies in a Monarchs uniform which is tied for sixth on the franchise's all-time goals list.

Left wing Tanner Pearson (14-25=39) is in fourth place on the Monarchs with 39 points.

Pearson has four goals and six assists in his last nine games.

Pearson is in second place on the team with 25 assists.

Pearson is tied for third on the team in plus/minus with plus-16.

Pearson returned to the Monarchs line-up on Friday, March 15. He had been out of the line-up since Sunday, February 24 with an upper body injury. Pearson was reinjured in the Monarchs game on Friday, March 15. Pearson returned to the Monarchs line-up on Wednesday March 27 and has four points in two games since rejoining the line-up.

Center Jordan Weal (11-16') is fifth on the Monarchs with 27 points.

Weal has nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points in his last 30 games.

Weal scored in back-to-back games for the first time in his professional career with goals on January 5 and 11.

Center Andrei Loktionov (7-15=22) is tied with center Andy Andreoff (10-12=22) for sixth place on the Monarchs with 22 points each.

Loktionov was traded to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, February 7 for a fifth round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Andreoff tallied his first professional multi-goal game in a 5-4 shootout victory against the IceCaps on Friday, March 1.

Defenseman Nick Deslauriers (4-17=21) is in eighth place on the Monarchs with 21 points.

Deslauriers leads Monarchs defensemen with 17 assists this season.

Defenseman David Kolomatis (6-14=20) is in ninth place on the Monarchs with 20 points.

Kolomatis had a four-game assist streak (0-5=5) snapped on Saturday, March 2 against the IceCaps.

Kolomatis returned to the Monarchs line-up on Friday, December 28 after missing 23 games due to injury.

Left wing Marc-Andre Cliche (9-9=18) is tied with defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (5-13=18) for 10th place on the Monarchs with 18 points each.

Cliche had surgery on Monday, February 4 and returned to the Monarchs line-up on Saturday, March 23 against the Bears.

Cliche is in third place on the Monarchs all-time games played list with 332.

Cliche has scored 67 goals in his career with the Monarchs which is tied for sixth place on the franchise's all-time goals scored list.

Cliche ranks ninth on the Monarchs all-time points list with 148 and ranks ninth on the franchise's all-time assist list with 82.

Bodnarchuk is second on the team in plus/minus with plus-19.

Left wing Dwight King (5-12=17) and right wing Stefan Legein (5-12=17) are tied for 12th on the Monarchs with 17 points each.

King was recalled by the Kings on Tuesday, January 15.

Legein tallied goals in consecutive games on March 8 and 10. His goal on March 8 was scored in overtime and his goal scored on March 10 was scored when the Monarchs were shorthanded.

Defenseman Slava Voynov (7-9=16) is in 13th place on the Monarchs with 16 points.

Voynov's seven goals lead team defensemen.

Voynov rejoined the Kings on Tuesday, January 15.

Defenseman Bryan Rodney (4-11=15) is tied with left wing Colton Yellow Horn (6-9=15) for 15th place on the Monarchs with 15 points each.

Yellow Horn tallied his first AHL point, an assist, in his AHL debut on Sunday, February 10.

Yellow Horn tallied his first AHL goal on Tuesday, February 12.

Yellow Horn has 15 points (6-9=15) in 20 games with the Monarchs.

Yellow Horn had a three-game point streak (2-2=4) snapped against the IceCaps on Friday, March 1.

Defenseman Thomas Hickey (3-9=12) is tied with right wing Brian O'Neill (2-10=12) for 17th place on the Monarchs with 12 points each.

Hickey was claimed off waivers by the New York Islanders on Tuesday, January 15.

O'Neill had a three-game assist streak snapped on Friday, March 29 against the Pirates.

Defenseman Jake Muzzin (2-9=11) is tied with defenseman Vincent LoVerde (2-9=11) for 19th place on the Monarchs with 11 points each.

Muzzin was recalled by the Kings on Sunday, January 13.

Muzzin was named the NHL's Rookie of The Month for March with four goals and seven assists for 11 points in 17 games with the Kings.

LoVerde tallied his first AHL goal in a 4-1 loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday, February 1.

LoVerde scored on Penguins netminder Jeff Zatkoff who is a former teammate of LoVerde's while they played for the NCAA's Miami University (Ohio) Redhawks.

LoVerde is tied for third on the Monarchs in plus/minus with a plus-16.

The Monarchs signed LoVerde to a professional tryout agreement on Wednesday, January 9.

Defenseman Andrew Campbell (1-8=9) is in 21st place on the Monarchs with nine points.

Campbell returned from an upper body injury on Friday, December 7 in Providence after missing 16 games. Campbell was recalled by the Kings on February 6 and was reassigned to Manchester on February 8. Campbell was recalled to the Kings for a second stint on Wednesday, February 13 and was reassigned to the Monarchs on Saturday, March 2.

Campbell's 335 games are in second place on the Monarchs all-time games played list.

Left wing Richard Clune (2-5=7) is tied with right wing Anthony Stewart (4-3=7) for 22nd place on the Monarchs with seven points.

Clune led the team with 98 penalty minutes.

Clune's 786 penalty minutes rank second on the Monarchs all-time career penalty minutes list.

Clune was picked up off waivers by the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, January 15.

The Kings picked up Stewart along with a draft pick from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for right wing Kevin Westgath on Sunday, January 13. Stewart cleared waivers and joined the Monarchs on Tuesday, January 22.

Left wing Jordan Nolan (2-4=6) is tied with left wing David Meckler (2-4=6) and center Robbie Czarnik (4-2=6) for in 24th place on the Monarchs with six points each. Nolan was recalled by the Kings on Tuesday, January 15.

Meckler tallied his second goal of the season in a 3-2 loss against the Bruins on Sunday, February 10.

Meckler's goal was the 76th tally of his Monarchs career ranking second on the franchise all-time list.

Meckler holds the franchise record for games played with 373 in a Monarchs uniform. Meckler's 350th game came against the Pirates on Sunday, November 25.

Defenseman Chris Huxley (0-4=4) is in 27th place on the Monarchs with four points.

Huxley made his Monarchs and AHL debut in a 3-0 victory over the Bruins on Wednesday, January 23.

Huxley tallied his first AHL point, an assist, in a 4-1 loss to the Penguins on Friday, February 1.

Huxley had a three-game point and assist streak snapped on Tuesday, February 12.

Huxley has a plus/minus of plus-6 through his first 21 games with the Monarchs.

The Monarchs signed Huxley to a professional tryout agreement on Tuesday, January 22.

Left wing Hunter Bishop (1-1=2) ranks 28th on the Monarchs with two points.

Bishop made his Monarchs debut on Friday, February 22 against the Sharks.

Bishop tallied his first AHL goal in a 4-1 victory over the IceCaps on Saturday, March 2. Bishop's tally came while the Monarchs were shorthanded and it proved to be the game-winning goal.

Forward Ian O'Connor (1-0=1) is in 29th place on the Monarchs with one point. O'Connor tallied his first career AHL goal on Wednesday, March 6.

O'Connor made his Monarchs debut on Friday, March 1.

Right wing Justin Johnson (0-0=0) has 19 penalty minutes in 12 games this season. Last season, Johnson had 187 penalty minutes in 41 games.

Goaltender Martin Jones (21-23-4) has a 2.64 goals-against-average, a 0.915 save percentage and has stopped 1364-of-1490 shots attempted in 48 games this season.

Jones appeared in his 100th game in a Monarchs uniform in a 3-2 shootout loss against the Springfield Falcons on Sunday, December 16.

Goaltender Peter Mannino (10-7-0) has a 2.47 goals-against-average and a 0.919 save percentage in 20 games this season.

Netminder Jean-Francois Berube (0-2-0) made his season debut in relief of Mannino on Tuesday, January 15 making 13 saves on 17 shots while recording the loss for the Monarchs.

Berube made his first start of this season with the Monarchs on Sunday, March 17. It was Berube's first start with the Monarchs since April 11, 2010.

Berube was reassigned by the Kings to the ECHL's Ontario Reign on Monday, March 25.
