DENVER - Despite not scoring in the second half, the Colorado Mammoth defeated the Philadelphia Wings, 10-9, on Saturday night on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center to keep pace in the playoff race. Colorado forward Jordan McBride led the Mammoth with four goals, but admitted that the team was fortunate to come away with the win.

"We're lucky! Last game, (a similar) situation happened and we lost. We have to learn from that and have to score some goals in the second half."

Seven days ago, the Mammoth led the Roughnecks, 7-2, late in the second quarter, only to lose in overtime. A week later, the Wings were unable to claw all the way back.

"I can't explain it - I would say a "˜9 out of 10'," said Mammoth head coach Bob Hamley, when asked how unusual a game it was. "That's something I've never been involved in. A lot of these guys have never been involved in something like that."

Reigning NLL MVP John Grant Jr. (2g, 3a) surpassed Mammoth legend Gary Gait for third all-time in career points in league history on his goal 2:07 into the second quarter. But it wasn't all smiles after the game.

"I'm sure I'll look back down the road at it and appreciate it, but, right now, I'm just down because offensively we tried everything we could to give that one away," said Grant. "We have to play better in the second half."

The Wings managed four goals in the first thirty minutes, and five in the second half. Drew Westervelt's extra-attacker goal with 58 seconds remaining cut the Mammoth's lead to one. To his dismay, the comeback attempt would fall short.

Colorado goaltender Tye Belanger made 23 of his 37 saves in the second half, and improved to 3-2 on the season. Forward Casey Powell led all players with seven points (1g, 6a). The Mammoth has won two straight at home, and three of four overall.

Next Saturday, the Mammoth travels to Rexall Place to take on the West Division-leading Edmonton Rush.
