Allen Finishes Season on Top of Sher-Wood Coaches Poll
March 28, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
GLENDALE, AZ (March 1, 2013) - The Allen Americans finished in a rank they were for most of the season, first, in the final Sher-Wood Coaches Poll of the 2012-13 season. The Americans are the 2012-13 Bud Poile Governors' Cup Champions with their 39-18-9 record and 87 points. Allen finished one point ahead of the Wichita Thunder in the standings and three points ahead in the coaches poll points.
The poll has been released on or near the beginning and middle of each month throughout the regular season with each first place vote receives 10 points, second place votes earn 9 points, etc.
Allen earned six first place votes and the Thunder earned one. It is the team that earned the other three that is the biggest mover in the final poll, the Arizona Sundogs. Arizona finished the regular season in seventh place with a 32-27-7 record and 71 points but they end up in fourth place in the final coaches poll sitting just six points behind third place Fort Worth, a team they swept in a season-ending three-game series. Arizona went 7-1-2 in their final 10 games.
The only other club making a move on the final poll is the Quad City Mallards who jumped two spots from eighth place to sixth place thanks in large part to their season-ending five-game win streak.
Both Denver and Rapid City dropped two places in the final poll while Missouri fell one spot. Tulsa and Bloomington stayed in the same spot as the previous poll.
