Hamilton, Ontario - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Abbotsford Heat 5-3 on Wednesday night at Copps Coliseum. Joey Tenute scored two goals while Nathan Beaulieu, Patrick Holland and Alex Belzile each had two assists.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 10:41 of the opening frame on Michael Bournival's eighth goal of the season. Bournival picked up the puck at the right point from Beaulieu and walked into the slot and ripped a wrister off the right post and in behind Abbotsford Heat starting goaltender Danny Taylor.
The 'Dogs went up by two at 13:17 of the first period on Frederic St-Denis' second goal in as many games. Philippe Lefebvre took a shot from the point which was blocked by a Heat defender and the rebound came out to St-Denis in the slot who buried it into the empty net. With an assist on the play, Brady Vail earned his first professional point.
Hamilton took a 3-0 lead at 18:39 of the first as Tenute walked into the slot and wired a shot by Taylor. Barry Brust replaced Taylor at the start of the second period.
Greg Pateryn ripped a slapper from the left point past Brust off of a feed from Holland on the power play to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead at 6:14 of the second frame. The goal was Pateryn's second tally in two games.
The Heat got on the board at 1:52 of the third stanza as Max Reinhart came flying down the left wing and wristed a shot over the blocker of Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Robert Mayer. Abbotsford scored their second goal at 6:01 of the third as Roman Horak picked up a rebound at the top of the crease and slid it by Mayer.
The 'Dogs restored a three-goal lead on Tenute's second tally of the evening at 8:36 of the third period. Holland went flying into the slot and put a move on Brust who stopped the initial shot and the rebound came out to Tenute who lifted the puck into the empty net.
Ben Street added a third goal for Abbotsford with a shot from the right circle at 15:13 of the final frame. The Heat outshot the Bulldogs 45-22.
The Bulldogs' next game is against the Abbotsford Heat at Copps Coliseum on Friday, March 29th at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on Cable 14.
