HARTFORD, March 27, 2013: Connecticut Whale general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the parent New York Rangers have reassigned defenseman Jyri Niemi from the Whale to its ECHL affiliate, the Greenville Road Warriors.
Niemi, whose latest Whale stint began with his reassignment from Greenville February 7, has played in a total of 11 games with Connecticut this season, scoring one goal and adding one assist for two points and registering a +2, with nine penalty minutes. In 14 ECHL games with Greenville, Niemi, a third-year pro out of the Western Hockey League, has one goal and five assists for six points, a +8 and 34 PIM.
The Whale are back in action tomorrow night, Thursday, March 28, when they host the Worcester Sharks at the XL Center. Faceoff is 7:00 PM, and the game will feature a benefit jersey auction, in which fans will have a chance to purchase their favorite Whale player's home jersey, and to meet the player after the game as well. The auction will be held during the first intermission, and all proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
