Stars Outlast Aeros 7-6 in OT

Houston, TX - The Houston Aeros (33-22-5-5, 76 points) were defeated by the Texas Stars (38-17-5-6, 87 points) 7-6 in overtime on Tuesday night in front of 3,120 fans at Toyota Center. Rookie forward Alex Chiasson put in a rebound 3:17 into overtime, giving Texas the victory. Houston erased a two-goal deficit by outscoring Texas 4-2 in the third period. Center Mikael Granlund extended his points streak to 11 games, scoring with 52 seconds left to force overtime. Texas forward Justin Dowling scored twice and set up the game-winning goal. In all, five Texas skaters and three Aeros registered a multi-point night. Brett Bulmer, David McIntyre, Justin Fontaine, Jason Zucker and Steven Kampfer each scored for Houston, which slipped to 16-8-2-3 at home this season. Texas goalie Jack Campbell (15-11-3) stopped 23 of 29 Aeros shots for the win. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (19-20-3) stopped 24 of 31 in defeat. The Aeros hosts Grand Rapids on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Toyota Center.

Houston jumped out to a 1-0 lead 5:49 into the first period. Right wing Jason Zucker played the puck to the Texas net. His shot deflected off the skate of a Stars defender and past goalie Jack Campbell. Defenseman Steven Kampfer set up Zucker's 20th goal of the season. Texas countered with its first goal of the night at 8:32 of the first period. Forward Justin Dowling redirected a shot by defenseman William Wrenn. Dowling's 11th goal of the year was also set up by Joe Morrow for the 1-1 tie. Matt Fraser made it 2-1 Stars with a power-play goal 11:24 of the first period. Travis Morin fired a cross-ice pass to Fraser, who rifled a one-timer past Matt Hackett. Jamie Oleksiak added an assist on Fraser's 32nd goal of the season.

The Stars scored their third straight goal 12:00 into the second period, claiming a 3-1 lead. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus snapped a wrist shot from the right-wing circle, slipping the shot past Hackett for his seventh goal of the season. Defenseman Steven Kampfer closed the gap with his second goal of the season at 14:21. The Aeros defenseman ripped a shot from the right point, beating goalie Jack Campbell for the 3-2 Aeros deficit. Texas answered back just 26 seconds later off Reilly Smith's 12th goal of the season. Winger Scott Glennie found Smith on the back side for the finish and a 4-2 lead at 14:47.

Houston struck just 3:33 into the final period, pulling within a goal at 4-3. Justin Fontaine rifled the puck from the goal line, just to the left of goalie Jack Campbell. Fontaine's shot deflected off traffic and into the Texas net for his 18th goal of the season. Houston's Brett Bulmer scored off a penalty shot at 5:14 of the third period, tying the game 4-4 with his third goal of the season. Houston claimed a 5-4 lead at 11:11 of the final period. Forward David McIntyre found a rebound and beat Jack Campbell to put Houston in front by one off his 14th goal of the season. Texas answered back, tying the game 5-5 off Justin Dowling's 12th goal of the season at 13:05. The Stars regained the lead at 14:00, as defenseman Tyler Sloan made it 6-5 with his third goal of the season. Forward Mikael Granlund tipped a point shot by Paul Mara with 52 seconds remaining in regulation, scoring his 10th goal of the season and tying the game 6-6. Defenseman Brian Connelly helped set up the game-tying goal.

Texas took the contest 3:17 into overtime when Alex Chiasson put in a rebound for his 13th goal of the season and a 7-6 Stars win. Dowling had the lone assist on the game-winning goal.

Houston continues a ten-game home stand at Toyota Center on Friday Mar. 29 at 7:05 p.m. Friday is " Go Green" Night, powered by a Cell Phone drive. As part of going "Green", fans are asked to bring in old cell phones for a Cell Phone Drive. The Aeros will award two tickets for a select future home game for each phone donation (up to ten per person). Grand Rapids will return to Toyota Center on Tuesday, Apr. 2 at 7:05 p.m.
