LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
Wednesday, March 20: Penguins 0, CRUNCH 1
The Syracuse Crunch blanked the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 1-0, at Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter. Crunch goalie Cedric Desjardins stopped all 20 shots for his fifth shutout of the year.
After a scoreless first, Syracuse broke through at 2:01 of the middle frame on a goal by Philip-Michael Devos. Despite being outshot in the first two periods 19-9, the Penguins turned the tide in the third period to hold 11-8 shot advantage.
Penguins netminder Jeff Zatkoff took the loss despite making 26 saves on 27 shots.
Saturday, March 23: PENGUINS 1, Admirals 4
Kyle Wilson's three points (1g-2a) helped the Norfolk Admirals defeat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 4-1, at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
By the seven-minute mark of the first period, the Admirals had leapt out to a 2-0 lead on goals 2:07 apart by Wilson and Chris Wagner. The Penguins cut the Admirals' lead in half at 13:13 of the second with a power play goal by Alex Grant. Norfolk responded almost immediately and made the score, 4-1, on another one-two punch of goal scoring. This time it was Patrick Maroon notching a 5-on-4 tally and Devante Smith-Pelly finding the back of the net 1:38 later.
Thiessen took the loss for Penguins with 19 saves on 23 shots over 40 minutes of play. Jeff Zatkoff stopped all nine shots he faced in one period of relief.
