LAST WEEK'S RESULTS

Wednesday, March 20: Penguins 0, CRUNCH 1

The Syracuse Crunch blanked the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 1-0, at Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter. Crunch goalie Cedric Desjardins stopped all 20 shots for his fifth shutout of the year.

After a scoreless first, Syracuse broke through at 2:01 of the middle frame on a goal by Philip-Michael Devos. Despite being outshot in the first two periods 19-9, the Penguins turned the tide in the third period to hold 11-8 shot advantage.

Penguins netminder Jeff Zatkoff took the loss despite making 26 saves on 27 shots.

Saturday, March 23: PENGUINS 1, Admirals 4

Kyle Wilson's three points (1g-2a) helped the Norfolk Admirals defeat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 4-1, at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

By the seven-minute mark of the first period, the Admirals had leapt out to a 2-0 lead on goals 2:07 apart by Wilson and Chris Wagner. The Penguins cut the Admirals' lead in half at 13:13 of the second with a power play goal by Alex Grant. Norfolk responded almost immediately and made the score, 4-1, on another one-two punch of goal scoring. This time it was Patrick Maroon notching a 5-on-4 tally and Devante Smith-Pelly finding the back of the net 1:38 later.

Thiessen took the loss for Penguins with 19 saves on 23 shots over 40 minutes of play. Jeff Zatkoff stopped all nine shots he faced in one period of relief.

Binghamton (39-20-1-5) had a three-game winning streak stopped by the Connecticut Whale on Sunday, but the Senators still find themselves with eight wins in their last 12 games and a second-place standing in the East Division. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is 2-6-0-0 versus Binghamton this season and close out the 2012-13 series with a pair of games this week. The Senators lead the league with 17 shorthanded goals.

Friday, March 29, 7:05 PM: PENGUINS vs. Bruins - 102.3 the Mountain

The Bruins (39-20-0-5) also suffered a setback in their last game, failing to make it five wins in a row with a 5-3 loss to the Worcester Sharks on Saturday. Providence sits atop of the Atlantic Division with the help of a 16-4-0-2 run since the beginning of February. The Bruins were the victors in the first meeting of the season against the Penguins - a 2-0 win on Mar. 8 in Providence. The Bruins have outscored opponents 60-36 in the first period.

- Trevor Smith became the sixth Wilkes-Barre/Scranton player this season to appear with Pittsburgh as skated with the Penguins in their Mar. 24 game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

- The Penguins loss to the Norfolk Admirals was their first on a Saturday since Dec. 29, 2012, also against the Admirals. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton won seven straight Saturday contests in between.
