Rochester Red Wings News Release

Minnesota Twins right-hander Mike Pelfrey tossed five innings for Rochester in the Red Wings 5-3 loss to the Norfolk Tides Thursday afternoon in Sarasota, Florida.

Pelfrey, who started for the Wings after his scheduled Grapefruit League start was cancelled Wednesday night due to rain, suffered the loss allowing three runs on seven hits while yielding two home runs. Pelfrey threw to Twins All-Star catcher and 2009 AL MVP Joe Mauer . Mauer went 1-for-2 with a double for the Wings.

Scott Elarton followed Pelfrey and surrendered a pair of runs in two innings. The 37-year-old, former first round pick of the Astros in 1994, is battling for a spot in the Red Wings starting rotation this season.

Clete Thomas and Oswaldo Arcia hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth as they tried to bring the Red Wings back. The home run for Thomas was his second in as many days after hitting a 3-run shot in the Wings 10-0 rout over Durham Wednesday.

After starting 0-for-9 with the Wings following his reassignment to Rochester over the weekend, Arcia, the Twins 3rd-best prospect per Baseball America, is beginning to heat up recording a pair of extra-base hits the last two days.

Danny Lehmann's sacrifice fly plated the other Red Wings run, while Evan Bigley went 2-for-4 on the afternoon.

The Wings travel back to Ft. Myers to play the Pawtucket Red Sox on Friday and Saturday afternoon. Rochester is 2-1-1 against the Paw Sox so far this spring and 4-3-1 overall.
