March 17, 2013 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - Today the Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club in partnership with Petro-Canada, a Suncor Energy business, honoured their best at the 2012-13 Hitmen Awards Banquet at The Fairmont Palliser. The afternoon featured special addresses from Bret "Hitman" Hart, one of the team's founding owners, and Rick Hanson, Calgary Chief of Police.
Playing in his final Western Hockey League season and fifth consecutive year with Calgary Hitmen, captain Cody Sylvester received six awards including the Suncor Energy Player of the Year award which he previously earned in 2010-11. Past recipients of this prestigious honour include Brad Moran and Ryan Getzlaf. By being honoured six times, Sylvester has captured the highest number of single season team awards in franchise history.
For the second time this season, the native of Vernon, British Columbia was named the Ed Williams Player of the Month for March, a title he previously received in January. During the 2012-13 campaign, the 20-year-old set career highs in goals (41), assists (49) and points (90) including posting a franchise-high seven-point performance (1g, 6a) on March 5. The captain's six-assist effort also set a franchise record for most assists in a single game. After five seasons with the club, Sylvester is now sixth all-time in games played (315), fifth in goals (97), surpassing Getzlaf by two goals, eighth in assists (132) and tied for seventh in points (229) with Boris Protsenko.
"Cody has been a vital part of our hockey club's success this season," said Hitmen General Manager, Executive Vice President and Alternate Governor Kelly Kisio. "He is well-respected in the dressing room for not only his leadership but his work ethic both on the ice and in the community. It has been a privilege to have Cody in our organization for five seasons. We wish him all the best in his post-WHL endeavors."
