March 15, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) Binghamton Senators

Friday, March 8: Connecticut 0, Binghamton 3

PP: Connecticut 0 for 0, Binghamton 0 for 6

The Binghamton Senators began another three-game weekend at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena where the shut out the Connecticut Whale, 3-0.

Fredrik Claesson and Chris Wideman scored for the B-Sens. Wacey Hamilton scored an empty net goal at 18:08 in the third.

Nathan Lawson earned his first shutout of the season stonewalling all 34 shots faced. Cameron Talbot started in net for Connecticut, stopping 35 of the 37 shots that he faced.

Saturday, March 9: Rochester 3, Binghamton 4 - Overtime

Shots: Rochester 44, Binghamton 38

PP: Rochester 1 for 5, Binghamton 0 for 3

After Friday's shutout against the Whale, the B-Sens welcomed the Rochester Americans earning an overtime victory, 4-3. Corey Cowick and Shane Prince each tallied two goals on the night. Cowick's second of the game would be the overtime winner.

Maxime Legault and Zemgus Girgensons scored even strength goals for the Amerks. Matt Ellis had Rochester's lone power play marker.

Nathan Lawson started in goal for Binghamton stopping 41 of 44 shots to his sixth win. Nathan Lieuwen received the nod in goal for Rochester, making 34 saves on 38 Binghamton shots.

Sunday, March 10: Binghamton 3, Hershey 2

Shots: Binghamton 30, Hershey 30

PP: Binghamton 1 for 5, Hershey 1 for 4

The B-Sens concluded their fourth consecutive three games in three nights stretch in Hershey on Sunday where they outlasted the Bears in an exciting, 3-2 victory.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau tallied the B-Sens 16th shorthanded goal this season. Shane Prince scored on the power play and Derek Grant scored the game-winning goal with less than three seconds remaining in the game.

Peter LeBlanc and Casey Wellman each scored for Hershey.

Mark Cheverie made his seventh start in goal for the B-Sens, turning aside 28 of 30 shots. Philipp Grubauer tended goal for the Bears, stopping 27 of 30 shots.

Wednesday, March 13: Binghamton 1, Rochester 3

Shots: Binghamton 19, Rochester 39

PP: Binghamton 0 for 4, Rochester 0 for 3

The B-Sens travelled to Blue Cross Arena to take on the Rochester Americans for the second time in less than a week. The game concluded the eight game season series between the two teams. Despite a 6-0-0-1 record against the Amerks, Binghamton ultimately fell 3-1.

Derek Grant had the B-Sens lone goal, earning his team leading 17th goal on the season.

Matt Ellis, Luke Adam and Maxime Legault all tallied goals for the Amerks.

Nathan Lawson started between the pipes for Binghamton, making 36 saves on 39 shots. David Leggio earned the win for Rochester, stopping a total of 18 on 19 shots.

Record: 36-18-1-5

Standings: The B-Sens are second place overall in the East Division (78 points).

THIS WEEK...

Friday, March 15 vs. Adirondack Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers) - 7:05 p.m.

The B-Sens are back at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena for back-to-back home games this weekend. Tonight they will face the Adirondack Phantoms for the third time on home ice. Binghamton previously lost to Adirondack, 2-1 in Glens Falls on Feb. 24.

The B-Sens currently hold a 3-1-0-1 record against the Phantoms.

Adirondack currently sits in fifth place in the Northeast Division with a 23-31-2-3 record and 51 points.

Forward Jason Akeson leads the team in points (36). He also leads the team with 13 goals among active players.

Promotions: Tonight is Mascot Mania presented by McDonald's! B-Sens mascot Max will be joined by Adirondack's Dax the Beaver, B-Mets' Buddy the Bee and Hot Dog Horse, Chuck E. Cheese, Communikey's C.K. the Monkey, Maines' Mainesy Bear and many more. The mascots will appear on the arena concourse throughout the night to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.

Saturday, March 16 vs. Norfolk Admirals (Anaheim Ducks) - 7:05 p.m.

After the B-Sens face the Phantoms, they will take on the Norfolk Admirals for the sixth time this season on Saturday. Binghamton last took on Norfolk at home on Jan. 12 defeating the visitors 4-2.

The Admirals currently hold a record of 28-26-4-1 and 61 points. Norfolk is in fifth place in the East Division.

Although the Admirals sit at the bottom of the B-Sens division, the team has gone 7-2-1-0 in their last ten games.

Goaltender Frederik Andersen is ranked third in the American Hockey League with a goals-against average of 2.11. He also third in the league with a .931 save percentage.

Promotions: Saturday is a St. Patrick's Day celebration! The first 500 children through the doors at 6 p.m. will receive a free St. Patrick's Day rubber duck courtesy of Homewood Suites and the Carle School of Irish Dance will be on hand to perform during the first intermission and on the arena concourse throughout the night.

Also on Saturday the B-Sens will recognize the 2013 Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame inductees Bob Carr and Al Hill. Carr and Hill will be formally inducted in an ice-level ceremony at 7 p.m.

In addition to the promotions taking place this weekend the B-Sens will wear special St. Patrick's Day themed jerseys for both Friday's and Saturday's games. The jerseys will be auctioned off post-game on Saturday night. Fans interested in participating in the auction are encouraged to visit the B-Sens merchandise stand on the main concourse of the arena during Saturday's game for details.

SENS SNIPPETS...

Defenseman Chris Wideman scored his first career AHL goal during the final period of Friday night's,

3-0 shutout victory against the Connecticut Whale. Wideman has appeared in 44 games with the B-Sens so far this season, recording 11 points (one goal, ten assists) and adding 36 penalty minutes.

During Saturday night's home game versus the Rochester Americans, Stephane Da Costa earned two assists on the night which helped rank him first in points, surpassing previous point leader Jakob Silfverberg. After Sunday and Wednesday's games, he sits with 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) on the season.

The B-Sens acquired a new goal leader after Derek Grant's two goals this past week. Grant scored the game-winner at Sunday's game versus Hershey, putting one in the net with less than three seconds remaining in the game. He also tallied the lone goal against the Rochester Americans on Wednesday. Grant's goal total now sits at 17.

B-SENS BRINGING IT HOME TO THE COMMUNITY...

Throughout the month of March, the B-Sens will have four custom built lockers designed by the B-Sens players on display on the arena concourse. The lockers will be raffled off to benefit Broome County Habitat for Humanity. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5. The winner will be drawn on March 30.
