CHL 2012-13 Best of the Best Poll Results Announced

GLENDALE, AZ (March 15, 2013) - The Central Hockey League (CHL) released today the results of the annual "˜Best of the Best' poll as voted on by CHL players, coaches and operational staff from each CHL team (each club submitted one ballot). The poll consists of 50 categories that cover all aspects of the league including on-ice performance, in-game entertainment as well as top venues, concessions, websites, etc. Each team provided three top choices for each category, with first place votes counting as five points, second place votes counting as three points and third place votes counting as one point.

The Missouri Mavericks led the way with representation in 24 different categories and they were tied for the most first place honors with a dozen. Veteran Sebastien Thinel was voted the league's "˜Best Overall Player', "˜Best Playmaker', "˜Most Valuable to His Team' and "˜Most Gentlemanly Player'. Forward Colt King was voted the "˜Best Bodychecker' and the remainder of the Mavs first place honors were in off-the-ice categories such as "˜Best Uniforms', "˜Best Mascot', "˜Best Use of Social Media' and "˜Best On-Ice Promotions' among others.

The Allen Americans were second earning 22 recognitions with five first place honors while coming in second place seven times and third place 10 times. Allen goaltender Aaron Dell was named the "˜Best Goaltender' and forward Jarret Lukin was tagged the "˜Best Penalty Killer' and "˜Best Defensive Forward'. Darryl Bootland was voted the "˜Best Power Forward' and the Ice Angels were voted the "˜Best Cheerleading/Dance Team'.

The Wichita Thunder were third with 21 categories they were recognized in tying with Missouri for the most first place honors (12). Wichita Head Coach Kevin McClelland was voted the "˜Best Coach' and the Thunder's fans earned the honor as the "˜Most Annoying Fans'. The INTRUST Bank Arena was tabbed the "˜Best Arena' with the "˜Best Locker Rooms' and the "˜Best Press Box' as well. Wichita's blue line was well represented as Kevin Young was voted "˜Best Offensive Defenseman' and "˜Hardest Shooter' and Nathan Lutz was singled out as the "˜Best Defensive Defenseman'.

The expansion Denver Cutthroats (17 categories) and the Rapid City Rush (15 categories) round out the top five.

Earning top honors in the physical categories, Arizona's Kip Brennan was voted the "˜Best Heavyweight Fighter' and Tulsa's Daniel Amesbury was voted the "˜Best Fighter- Pound-for-Pound'.

Some of the other players recognized were Arizona's Jason Morgan ("˜Best Leader' and "˜Best Player on Face-Offs'), Denver's Adam Smyth ("˜Most Annoying Player') and Quad City's Mickey Lang ("˜Fastest Skater' and "˜Most Underrated Player').
