Portland Pirates News Release

Worcester, MA - The Portland Pirates came back from a 3 goal deficit, but Adam Comrie's goal just 23 seconds after the Pirates tied the game allowed the Worcester Sharks to defeat the Pirates by a 5-3 score in their last regular season matchup of the season. The Pirates remain 4 points back of the Providence Bruins in the Atlantic Division and sit in 5th place in the Eastern Conference.

The Sharks got on the board first, with James Livingston providing the Worcester offense. Livingston scored his 5th goal of the year at 5:11 of the first to give the Sharks the 1-0 lead. Jimmy Bonneau and Joel Rechlicz dropped the gloves with 3:25 left in the period in an attempt to energize their teams. While Rechlicz got the takedown, he also picked up an extra penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and the Sharks would capitalize. Bracken Kearns scored just 4 seconds into the power play to give the Sharks the 2-0 advantage into the first intermission.

Danil Tarasov extended the Worcester lead to 3-0 with 14:05 left in the second, his 8th goal of the year. The Pirates would get on the board as David Rundblad, just back from the Phoenix Coyotes, scored a power play goal at 11:14. The goal was Rundblad's 7th of the season for the Pirates. The scored remained 3-1 after the second period.

The third period started off with a bang. Alexandre Bolduc got his 21st goal of the year just 43 seconds into the period to bring the Pirates within 1. Just 51 seconds later, Jordan Martinook scored the equalizer for Portland, beating Harri Sateri for his 6th goal of the year. Portland would hold the lead for just 23 seconds, as Comrie gave the Sharks the lead once again with his 1st goal of the year. Bracken Kearns would add an empty net goal for his second of the game with 1:04 to go, and the Sharks would hold on for the victory.

The Pirates fall to 33-21-3-2 and have dropped their last 3 games. Chad Johnson made 22 saves on 26 shots to take the loss, with his record now 15-12-1 on the year.

The Pirates will head back to Portland to play the Adirondack Phantoms at the Civic Center for the only time this season on Wednesday night. Puck drop is set for 7 PM. The game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live.
