B-Sens Blank Whale, 3-0
March 8, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators were back at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena tonight to face the Connecticut Whale for the first time this season. After losing to the Toronto Marlies in a shootout last Sunday the B-Sens brought nothing but fire tonight as they blanked the Whale, 3-0 to earn their third shutout of the season, first at home.
The B-Sens scored just 56 seconds into the opening period as Frederik Claesson tallied his second goal of the year courtesy of Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Corey Cowick. Claesson's goal would conclude the scoring for the first.
The second period proved to be a wash for both teams as neither was able to put the puck into the net. Binghamton received a 5-on-3 power play with just 2:38 remaining in the middle frame, but failed to capitalize returning to the locker room for the second intermission with the same 1-0 lead.
Chris Wideman gave the B-Sens a comfortable 2-0 lead after scoring his first American Hockey League goal with 2:39 remaining in the third period. Shane Prince and Brett Lebda earned the helpers. Binghamton would stretch the lead to three after Wacey Hamilton scored the empty netter just 47 seconds after Wideman's tally.
Nathan Lawson started in net for Binghamton, making 34 saves on 34 shots to earn his fifth victory and first shutout of the season. Cameron Talbot tended goal for Connecticut and came away with the loss after stopping 35 of 37 shots.
The B-Sens return to action tomorrow as they host the Rochester Americans. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets to the game are $19 for side and $18 for end seats. Fans can purchase tickets through the B-Sens executive office by calling (607) 722-SENS (7367), the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office, and all Ticketmaster outlets.
