Zolnierczyk Returned to Phantoms
March 8, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Adirondack Phantoms News Release
The Phantoms have announced that left-wing Harry Zolinerczyk (Zoln-uhr-check) has been returned to Adirondack by the Philadelphia Flyers, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.
Zolnierczyk, 25, played in six games with the Flyers from February 12 through March 2 scoring zero goals and one assist. He received a four-game suspension from the NHL for charging Mike Lundin of the Ottawa Senators in a game on March 2, 2013. He has currently served two games of that suspension.
Per AHL by-laws, any player under suspension to another league is ineligible to play in the AHL pending review by the league President. Zolnierczyk has now been ruled eligible by the AHL effective today.
He would have to sit out the remaining two games of his suspension on any subsequent call-up to the NHL.
"Harry Z" has been tabbed as an alternate captain with the Phantoms this season and has 9 goals and 8 assists in 46 games this year. Zolnierczyk's most recent game with Adirondack was February 10 vs. Syracuse.
He scored 3 goals and 3 assists in 37 games with the Flyers last season including a highlight-reel caliber goal on October 18, 2011 against Ottawa in his NHL debut. He also played in 39 games with Adirondack last year scoring 8 goals and 13 assists.
The Toronto native and former Ivy League Player of the Year out of Brown University signed with the Flyers organization as a free agent in March, 2011.
Zolinierczyk is one of nine players from this year's Adirondack Phantoms roster to be called up and played for the Philadelphia Flyers this season along with Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, Zac Rinaldo, Tye McGinn, Eric Wellwood, Andreas Lilja, Brian Boucher and Erik Gustafsson.
The Adirondack Phantoms are back in action this weekend with home games on Friday and Saturday against the Springfield Falcons and Connecticut Whale. Saturday night is Phantoms T-Shirt Night for the first 2,500 fans in attendance.
