Everblades Spoil Late Cyclones Rally in OT, 5-4

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones (38-17-5-2) fought back with three goals in the third period to earn one point, but fell in overtime by a 5-4 final score to the Florida Everblades (30-20-4-6) in front of 2,134 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night. For the second straight game, Mike Embach posted a multi-point effort for the Cyclones.

Florida's first goal of the came at the 7:11 mark of the first period when Mathieu Roy sent a wrist shot along the goal line and past the leg of Cincinnati goaltender Michael Houser (OTL, 13-5-1, 21 saves). The Cyclones evened the score at 1-1 after David Pacan found Josh Birkholz with a centering pass from behind the net. Birkholz slammed the puck by net minder Jesse Deckert (W, 1-0-0, 37 saves) who was making his professional debut for the Everblades. Just 15 seconds later, Florida jumped back in front as David Milan fought home a loose puck. The Cyclones would enter the first intermission trailing by the 2-1 score.

The Everblades extended their lead by two goals during a penalty filled middle frame. At 7:33, Corey Trivino knocked in a bouncing puck as a scrum developed in front of Houser. With 9:08 left in the second period, Danick Gauthier gave his team a 4-1 cushion on a wrist shot from the left circle that bounced off Houser and into the back of the net. Despite several power play opportunities at the end of the second, the Cyclones were unable to make a dent in Florida's three-goal advantage.

Momentum started to shift 2:49 into the final stanza when Embach struck with his first goal of the evening. He followed with his second at the 15:36 mark, pulling his team to within one at 4-3. Keeping the pressure on, Cincinnati's captain Mathieu Aubin picked up a rebound in the middle after a blocked shot and delivered the game-tying goal at 17:23. As the teams skated even the rest of regulation, the game was to be decided in overtime.

Unfortunately, another bad bounce gave Florida the win; a bouncing puck to the high slot hit Brett Henley and his slap shot redirected off of a defender and past Houser to give his team a 5-4 triumph.
