Tri-City Storm News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Tri-City Storm (20-24-5) scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take control of the game and held on for a 6-4 victory over the Indiana Ice (17-28-4) at Pan Am Arena in Indianapolis on Friday night.

Trevor Mingoia and Joel L'Esperance had big offensive nights, each registering three points in the Storm victory. Jared Linnell also scored two goals in the first period and Trevor Moore had a goal and an assist.

Tri-City took the lead early when Linnell found a rebound in front off a shot from L'Esperance and made it 1-0 4:35 into the opening frame.

The Storm doubled their lead later in the period on Moore's eighteenth goal of the season. Both Mingoia and Brian Ward picked up assists on Tri-City's second tally of the night.

But Indiana got on the board with a power play tally from Austin Hervey and tied the game when Patrick Newell beat Storm goalie Justin Quale with a one-timer in front with under a minute left in the first.

With just nine seconds remaining in the opening period, the Storm re-took the lead for good when Linnell scored his second of the frame, from L'Esperance and Michael Vecchione.

The second period was dominated by Tri-City. The Storm scored three times in the middle frame, which featured two highlight reel goals from Mingoia, and took control of the game.

Mingoia started the scoring in the second, making it 4-2 when he put a wrist shot into the top left corner of the net off an offensive zone turnover by Indiana.

Then L'Esperance made it 5-2 with his goal at 10:36 of the period and Mingoia made it 6-2 when he took a pass and went in alone on Indiana goaltender Anderson Snair, using a breakaway deke and slipping the puck into the net.

Indiana scored twice in the third, but Tri-City remained in control of the game and prevailed.

Justin Quale made the start in net for the Storm and picked up the win, making 33 saves on 37 shots.

Dalton Izyk started in net for Indiana, but was replaced after allowing three goals in the first period. Snair replaced him and played the final 40 minutes, making 13 saves on 16 shots.

Tri-City will finish their weekend road trip on Saturday night when they head to Youngstown to do battle with the Phantoms at the Covelli Center at 7:15 p.m. EST.
