February 28, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, partnered with St. Mary's Bank and Trinity High School to raise over 2,400 pounds of non-perishable canned goods and over $700 as a result of the Put Hunger On Ice Food Drive, announced Monarchs President Darren Abbott on Thursday.
The Put Hunger On Ice Food Drive raised 2,470 pounds of non-perishable foods and collected $702.00 from donations to benefit the New Hampshire Food Bank and people in need in the New Hampshire community.
"We have a great partnership with St. Mary's Bank and Trinity High School and we were proud to join forces and help feed the community of Manchester," said Abbott. "I would like to thank St. Mary's Bank and Trinity High School for all the hard work and dedication they have put in to the success of the food drive."
"The Trinity Hockey Team is very proud to have been included with the Manchester Monarchs and St. Mary's Bank in this worthwhile endeavor, and hope to continue this great partnership for years to come," said Mike O'Connell, Trinity High School's Development Director and Hockey Coach.
The food drive kicked off on Friday, January 22 with Monarchs players and Trinity High School hockey players combining efforts to collect non-perishable goods at St. Mary's Bank on Elm Street in Manchester. Monarchs players and Trinity High School teamed up to collect more non-perishable good at the St. Mary's Bank location on Hanover Street in Manchester on Thursday, February 7. Trinity and St. Mary's Bank were on hand collecting goods at the Verizon Wireless Arena for the Monarchs home game on Saturday, February 16. The Monarchs also collected donations at the Trinity High School versus Hanover High School hockey game at Sullivan Arena on the campus Saint Anselm College on Thursday, February 21 to close out the food drive.
"Students at Trinity High School really stepped up and help collect a substantial amount of food and money that will benefit the New Hampshire Food Bank and ultimately those in need," said Tom Champagne, Director of Community Outreach at St. Mary's Bank. "We have been partners with the Monarchs for many years and it was a great experience to work with them and Trinity on such a good cause."
"Donations are critical, especially in the winter months when many people have to choose between heating their homes and purchasing food," explained Mel Gosselin, Executive Director of the New Hampshire Food Bank. "We are so grateful to the Monarchs, St. Mary's Bank and Trinity High School for hosting 'Put Hunger on Ice' and rallying the community around us."
The Monarchs travel to play the St. John's IceCaps at the MileOne Centre on Friday, March 1 at 6:00 p.m. Catch all the play-by-play action of Monarchs hockey with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network WGIR 610 AM, WGIR.com and at www.manchestermonarchs.com, presented by Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.
