Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release

Flint, MI - The Michigan Warriors and the Kalamazoo Jr K-Wings played for the seventh time this season on Saturday night. Unfortunately for the Warriors, this game had the same results as the previous six, as Kalamazoo remained undefeated against Michigan. This time, the Jr. K-Wings won in overtime by the score of 2-1.

Early in the first period, Kalamazoo was unable to score on a four minute power play. They would, however, be able to capitalize on their next opportunity with an extra man. At 18:32, Robbie Payne (24th) found himself all alone in the slot, and Danny Hamburg was able to get him the puck for the score. Christian George also got an assist on the Payne goal.

The Warriors would get a power play goal of their own just 23 seconds into the second period. A.J. Marcinek (12th) was able to tip in the puck after Connor Lyons fired one from the point. Marcinek's goal tied the score at one goal each.

In the third period of this high-paced, exciting game between two rivals, each team had opportunities to break the tie, with Michigan getting four more shots than Kalamazoo, but no winner was decided.

It did not take long for victory to be claimed in overtime. In fact, it only took Mike Fazio (4th) 43 seconds to score the game-winner. Fazio's initial attempt was stonewalled by Trevor Gorsuch, but Fazio collected his own rebound and was able to backhand the puck into the net. Payne collected his second point of the night with the assist.

The Jr. K-Wings and the Michigan Warriors will play again tomorrow, February 24th, in Kalamazoo. This will be the final meeting of the season between the two clubs.
