Revs Sign Fiorentino and Fox

February 22, 2013 - Atlantic League (AtL) York Revolution

(York, Pa.): The York Revolution continue to build their 2013 roster, with two more key signings made official today. Outfielder Jeff Fiorentino will return to York this season, while right-handed pitcher Matt Fox is penciled into a spot in the starting rotation. The signings were announced by Revs manager Mark Mason.

Fiorentino made an instant impact upon arrival last season, signing with the team in time for the second half opener after beginning the year at Triple-A Sacramento in the Oakland Athletics organization. With York, Fiorentino batted .311 in 66 games, which would have ranked fifth highest in the league with enough at-bats to qualify. Fiorentino batted everywhere in the order except the cleanup and ninth spots, and strung together three hitting streaks of 10 games or longer with the Revs, while batting .366 over his final 26 games played.

The 29-year-old was a third-round draft selection out of Florida Atlantic University by the Baltimore Orioles in 2004, and made his Major League debut at age 22 in just his second pro season, when he was called up from High-A. Fiorentino had hits in his first four at-bats at the big league level, and has totaled 58 Major League games over parts of four seasons with the Orioles and Athletics, batting a combined .270.

Fox has also logged Major League time, making one start with the Minnesota Twins and three more appearances in relief with the Boston Red Sox, all during the 2010 season. For his minor league career, Fox is 45-36 with a 3.78 ERA, and won a career-high 10 games at Triple-A Pawtucket in the Red Sox organization in 2011. He spent last season in the Seattle Mariners organization.

The 30-year-old was an All-American at the University of Central Florida where he opposed Fiorentino in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and like his new teammate with the Revs, was also drafted in 2004, taken in the first-round (35th overall) by Minnesota that year.

Not only did the two face each other at the collegiate level, but also in high school in Florida, as well as in the professional ranks.

"I know him very well," said Fiorentino. "He's a good pitcher. I remember him having good stuff. He's a good competitor and I'm happy to have him on the team."

The Revs now have 11 players under contract for the 2013 season, which begins on Thursday, April 18 when the Revs host the Bridgeport Bluefish at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Opening Night. Full-season, partial-season, and individual tickets are all on-sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
