Sid Bream Slides into Knights Stadium on Friday, July 26February 13, 2013 - International League (IL) - Charlotte Knights Press Release
"We're very excited to welcome Sid to Knights Stadium later this year," said Knights General Manager of Baseball Operations Scott Brown. "With the success of former Braves great Dale Murphy last year, we felt that we really wanted to bring in another Braves player to Knights Stadium. Bream was a fan-favorite during his time with the Braves and is the perfect fit for us this season."
Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in second round of the 1981 draft, Bream spent all 12 of his seasons in the National League. After his days with the Dodgers, he went on to also play for the Pirates, Braves, and Astros. For his career, the Liberty University product was a .286 hitter with 90 home runs and 455 RBIs in 1,088 Major League games.
In 1986, as a member of the Pirates, Bream hit .286 with a career-best 16 home runs and 77 RBIs. His defensive play was also solid that season, as he set a Major League Baseball record with 166 assists at first base.
The Knights will host the Gwinnett Braves in game one of a four-game series on Friday, July 26. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and first pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
Earlier this week, National Baseball Hall-of-Famer Gaylord Perry was announced as the first "Flashback Fridays" guest. Perry, a five-time All-Star, will appear at Knights Stadium on Friday, July 14.
