Bruins Defeat Monarchs 3-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins improved their record to 26-16-0-3 and extended their winning streak to six games in a 3-2 win over the Manchester Monarchs this afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Carter Camper, Craig Cunningham and Torey Krug each scored and extended their point steaks to six games. Niklas Svedberg posted 21 saves in the win.

Providence came out fighting for their fifth win against Manchester this season. Providence went into this game with five wins in a row, where Manchester came in off four losses in a row. Carter Camper scored the first goal of the game at 4:46. Torey Krug and Justin Florek assisted the play. A delay of game penalty on Manchester's Vincent LoVerde gave the Bruins their first power play opportunity of the game about halfway through the first period. Providence had several opportunities, but just couldn't capitalize on the play. Both sides played evenly throughout the first period, but the Monarchs could not get any shots past Niklas Svedberg. With 3:23 left in the first, Zach Trotman was sent to the box for holding. Back at full strength with 1:01 left, Craig Cunningham scored his 11th goal of the season. Carter Camper and Kevan Miller assisted the play. Providence outshot Manchester 11-9 during the first.

Providence and Manchester played relatively evenly in the second period. The Bruin's first big opportunity did not result in much when the Monarch's Brandon Kozun went to the box for two minutes for hooking. The Monarch's scored their first goal at 10:15. Tanner Pearson got the goal with Andy Andreoff and Tyler Toffoli getting the assist. Bruins' Torey Krug responded with a power play goal at 15:12, his seventh goal of the season, putting the Bruins back up by two. Carter Camper made the assist on the play. Monarch's Jordan Weal was in the box for hooking. The Bruins outshot the Monarchs again in the second, 18-17. The Bruins held a 3-1 lead going into the third period.

The Monarchs' scored their second goal quickly in the third period just 37 seconds in. Providence instantly turned up the play with it just a one goal game, but Manchester kept the shots up. Providence matched Manchester's shots shortly after, but couldn't get any of them past Martin Jones. The Bruins gained another power play with 8:36 left in regulation time, but their goal was waived off for interference with the goaltender. David Kolomatis went to the box for Manchester for hooking with 6:23 left in the game, keeping the Bruins on the power play. Jones continued to come up with huge saves on the Monarch penalty kill as the Bruins kept the puck in the opponent's zone. Vincent LoVerde went to the box for two minutes for high sticking with just over five minutes left in the game. The Bruins were trying to take advantage of their five on three-man advantage, but hit the post. Back to a five on four, the Bruins had difficulty keeping the puck in their possession. Providence kept the pace up while Manchester was back at full strength. Manchester took a time out with 1:28 left in regulation. The Monarchs pulled Martin Jones from the goal with 1:15 left. The last minute of the game was a battle in the Bruins zone, but Svedberg made a huge save with 34 seconds remaining. The Bruins defense managed to keep the score at 3-2 over the Monarchs. The Bruins outshot the Monarchs 30-23.

The Providence Bruins return to The Dunk on Monday, February 11 versus the Portland Pirates. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for Tote Bag Night.
