Washington Spirit News Release

Boyds, MD (February 8, 2013) - Working to bolster an already strong roster, the Washington Spirit selected six players Thursday in the National Women's Soccer League Supplemental Draft. The Spirit players drafted in the order selected are as follows:

Stephanie Ochs (Round 1, 1st overall): Forward, formerly played for the Boston Breakers and the University of San Diego. Ochs was the first Toreros to be named West Coast Conference player of the year, and is a member of the U.S. U-23 National Team. This is the second time in two years Ochs has been a first round pick in a professional draft, as she was selected third overall in the 2012 WPS draft prior to that league folding later in the same year.

Tori Huster (Round 2, 9th overall): Midfielder, formerly played for the Western New York Flash and Florida State University. Huster just returned from a season of pro soccer in Australia with the Newcastle Jets. She was named a first team Scholar All American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2011, as well as First Team All-ACC in her final season at FSU.

Jordan Angeli (Round 3, 17th overall): Forward, formerly played for the Boston Breakers and Santa Clara University. In 2009, Angeli was the leading rookie scorer in the Women's Professional Soccer league and was named West Coast Conference Defender of the Year in her senior season at Santa Clara.

Natasha Kai (Round 4, 25th overall) : Forward, formerly played for the Philadelphia Independence and University of Hawaii Wahine. Kai was a regular on the U.S. Women's National Team from 2006-2009, scoring 24 goals in 64 total appearances, and is both an Olympic and FIFA World Cup veteran. Kai is nearly recovered from a knee injury, and is expected to be available by, or soon after, the start of the NWSL season.

Megan Mischler (Round 5, 33rd overall) : Forward, formerly played for the Boston Breakers and West Virginia University. During her senior season, Mischler led West Virginia to the 2011 Big East Conference Championship and was named to the All-Big East second team.

Heather Cooke (Round 6, 41st overall): Defender, formerly played for Loyola University of Maryland where she was 2009 All-MAAC first team her senior season. In 2012 Cooke also became a "Matilda" as a member of the Philippine National Team.

With this second and final draft of the inaugural 2013 NWSL season completed, Washington will now focus on finalizing contract offers with players and inviting others to be part of the allowed 32-player preseason training camp roster. Camp begins March 11, 2013 at the team's Maryland SoccerPlex training facility in Germantown, Maryland.

Spirit head coach Mike Jorden will use several soon-to-be-announced exhibition matches during the training camp to assist in his final roster selection of no more than 20 players by the season opener on April 13 or 14th. The season will run through the end of August 2013. The full schedule due to be announced any day.
