OF/1B-Ryan Rand, 6'4", 200 lbs (R/L) Freshman, Texas A&M
Ryan Rand will begin his freshman campaign for Texas A&M this spring after a decorated high school career at Langham Creek High. A 2012 34th Round draft selection by the Pittsburgh Pirates, he earned second team All-District first baseman honors his sophomore year, second team All-District outfielder his junior year and first team All-District outfielder as a senior. During high school he logged batting averages of .520, .430, .380, and .387 his freshman through senior years, respectively. He also displayed tremendous speed, stealing 20 bases as a sophomore, 31 as a junior, and 25 his senior year. In addition, Rand attended the Major League tryouts at Baseball USA, where he was timed the fastest baseball player in the Houston Region in the 60 yard dash. Rand is a native of Houston, Texas.
IF-Charlie Curl, 5'11", 190 lbs (R/R) Junior, Texas A&M
Curl will begin his junior season this spring after seeing action in 22 games last season as a sophomore. During his first season with the Aggies, Curl appeared in 59 games, drawing 30 starts, all at second base. He posted a .276 batting average while scoring 18 runs and driving in 18. He was selected to the Big 12 All-Freshman team after his first collegiate season.
Curl attended Tascosa High School and helped lead his team to playoff appearances in both his sophomore and junior seasons. His senior season he posted a .460 batting average and also led the Rebels in three major offensive categories as a junior, posting a team-best .430 average, 35 RBI and 47 runs scored. During his high school career he also garnered second team All-District, first team All-District and All-State accolades while also being selected Outstanding Senior Male and winner of the Spirit of Tascosa Award. As a freshman he earned district newcomer of the year honors after batting .400.
Curl is no stranger to summer baseball, having played with the Elk City Travelers of the United States Amateur Baseball Federation prior to his freshman season at Texas A&M. He helped lead his team to a 59-7 overall record and USABF World Series Championship while posting impressive offensive numbers that summer. In 46 games, Curl led his team with a .494 batting average with 62 runs, 14 doubles, six triples, 12 home runs, 52 RBI, while also stealing 16 bases. Curl is a native of Amarillo, Texas.
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are members of the 16-team summer collegiate Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate League in North America. In 2013 the Northwoods League will celebrate its 20th season. Opening Day at historic Witter Field is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29th at 7:05 pm against the Lakeshore Chinooks.
