New York Liberty Announce 2013 Regular Season Schedule

February 6, 2013 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) New York Liberty

NEW YORK, NY - February 6, 2013 - The New York Liberty will open the 2013 regular season, its 17th season in franchise history and first under new head coach and general manager Bill Laimbeer, on May 25 at 7 p.m. on the road against the Connecticut Sun in a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference Semifinals. The Liberty face the Tulsa Shock in the first home contest of the year on Opening Night at Prudential Center on May 31 at 7:30 p.m. The team will host 17 home games during the 2013 regular season, including three matchups against the defending WNBA Champion Indiana Fever.

The Liberty will host its longest home stand of the season in July. After a four-game road trip that features three Western Conference opponents, New York will play four-straight at home against the Chicago Sky (Jul. 7), Seattle Storm (Jul. 9), Indiana Fever (Jul. 13) and the Sky (Jul. 18). Another four-game road swing will close out the month of July with matchups at Chicago (Jul. 20), Indiana (Jul. 23), San Antonio (Jul. 25) and Washington (Jul. 31).

Other schedule highlights include: Dad's and Daughter's Day on Jun. 9 at Prudential Center against the Atlanta Dream; Liberty mascot Maddie's Birthday celebration on Jul. 7 against the Chicago Sky; Laimbeer will face his former assistant coach Cheryl Reeves on Aug. 27 when the defending Western Conference Champion Minnesota Lynx come to the Prudential Center; and the Liberty will host its annual Fan Appreciation Game on Sept. 10 against the Phoenix Mercury in the regular season finale.

A three-time WNBA Champion and Coach of the Year with the Detroit Shock, Laimbeer is in his first season with the Liberty franchise. Laimbeer spent eight seasons with the Shock from 2002-09 and most recently served as an assistant coach in the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He led the Shock to a 137-93 (.596) overall record, including six-straight playoff appearances as the squad won the WNBA Championship in 2003, 2006 and 2008.

The 2013 season will mark the last that the Liberty will call the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ home. Phase III of the three-year, top-to-bottom Transformation of Madison Square Garden will be completed in fall 2013, and the Liberty will return to The Garden for the 2014 season. Prudential Center is a convenient 15 minutes away from The Garden by train.
