Idaho's Fyten Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Idaho Steelheads forward Austin Fyten is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for January. He is the second Steelheads' rookie to win the award this season, following goaltender Josh Robinson, who won the honor for November .
The 21-year-old scored six goals and added 11 assists for 17 points in 12 games during January, helping the Steelheads to a 7-4-1 record during the month.
Fyten tallied at least one point in 11 of his 12 games during the month, and ended January on a seven-game point streak (5g-7a). He notched three points (2g-1a) in a 6-2 win against Alaska on Jan. 18, and tallied two points on three occasions, scoring one goal and adding an assist on Jan. 4 against Bakersfield and Jan. 27 at Gwinnett and registering a pair of assists on Jan. 19 against Alaska. He represented the Steelheads at the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game, posting a +2 in the ECHL All-Stars 7-3 win against Colorado.
A native of Sundre, Alberta, Fyten is second among ECHL rookies with 40 points and is tied for second among first-year players with 26 assists while his +17 is tied for fourth among rookies.
Currently loaned to Texas of the American Hockey League, Fyten spent the previous five seasons in the Western Hockey League tallying 122 points (55g-67a) in 193 regular-season games with Lethbridge and adding 10 points (4g-6a) in 26 postseason contests with Lethbridge and Vancouver.
