Wichita Wings News Release

Wichita, KS-The Wichita Wings (7-13) pulled off a huge 14-11 victory over the Rochester Lancers (7-14) with a three-goal push late in the fourth quarter. Andrew Hoxie led the Wings with a hat trick including a goal late in the final quarter to pull away from the Lancers. Sanaldo and Alex Moseley also added huge contributions to help the Wings earn a victory in a must-win match.

Pedro Franco kicked off the action for the Lancers, scoring early for a 2-0 lead just a minute into the first quarter. Sanaldo produced an exceptional quarter with several critical saves to prevent the Lancers from running away with the lead, which set up the Wings attack. After producing a couple of good looks at the goal, Wichita was finally able to convert the equalizer when Andrew Hoxie found the back of the net. Adrian Gonzalez quickly followed Hoxie with a goal of his own to give the Wings a 4-2 lead through the first quarter.

Though the Wings came out hot in the second quarter, they would not be able to finish before Mauricio Salles blasted a three point shot past Sanaldo, allowing Rochester a 5-4 lead halfway through the period. The physicality continued for both clubs, proving an intense battle. A beautiful backdoor pass from Danny Villegas would allow Hoxie to bury his second goal of the night, for a Wings 6-5 lead. Miguel Ferrer extended Wichita's lead off a huge assist from Alex Moseley to close the quarter with an 8-5 advantage over the Lancers.

While the Wings' attack has shone brightest in the third quarter over the last few weeks, the Lancers were able to rally themselves back, holding Wichita scoreless. Rochester's Brayton Knapp and Evan McNeley produced back-to-back goals to reclaim the lead at 9-8 with about five minutes to go in the quarter. Wichita was unable to comeback with a goal before the quarter ended, leaving them under familiar pressure heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter was imperative for both clubs with a single point separating the victor. For almost 12 minutes neither club saw any action, but a strike by Kareem Yearwood would kick off a huge run by Wichita to overtake the Lancers with a one point advantage. Then just a minute later Hoxie took a lone shot on the keeper to complete his hat trick and give the Wings a small amount of breathing room with a 12-9 lead over the Lancers. Alex Moseley kept the Wings' run alive, scoring on the sixth attacker to make the lead 14-9. Doug Miller would attempt to put Rochester back in the game with a two-point goal with just under a minute to play, but the Lancers would not be able to complete their comeback, as the Wings ran away with a 14-11 victory.

The Wings will complete their regular season home schedule with a match against the Baltimore Blast (17-5) Friday, February 8th at 7:35 p.m. in Hartman Arena.
