Silver Knights Suffer Fourth Overtime LossFebruary 1, 2013 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) - Syracuse Silver Knights Press Release
The Blast captured their third straight win over the Silver Knights in Syracuse despite blowing a six-point lead. Syracuse trailed 8-2 at halftime but dominated the second half, holding the Blast scoreless and ultimately forcing overtime.
Syracuse wore specialty camouflage jerseys, which were auctioned off immediately after the game. A portion of the proceeds were donated to the CNY Veterans Outreach Center, and the Silver Knights honored all active and retired U.S. military members during the game.
Local star Nate Bourdeau opened the game's scoring just past the midway point of the opening quarter, when he took a great centering pass from Andriy Budnyy and scored an easy tap-in goal.
The rest of the quarter went Baltimore's way, as the Blast rattled off three unanswered goals: Marco Mangione, Tony Donatelli, and Ptah Myers extended the Blast's lead to close out the initial quarter.
In the second quarter, Baltimore picked up where it left off, as Mike Lookingland scored on an impressive strike off a restart. Lookingland's thirteenth goal of the season made it an 8-2 game with 11:36 to play in the first half.
Neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of the first half, and the Knights killed off a Baltimore power play in the final minutes of the half to keep the deficit at six points.
The third quarter featured exciting, entertaining, end-to-end soccer but only one goal. Slavisa Ubiparipovic brought the Knights back within four points when he finished a beautiful 2-on-1 breakaway with Kenardo Forbes at the 2:15 mark of the quarter. Baltimore's William Vanzela made some outstanding saves during the quarter to preserve his squad's four-point lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Silver Knights continued to dominate the action. Antonio Manfut scored his first career MISL goal at 2:52 of the quarter, and Forbes tied the score about two minutes later.
The teams will meet again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Baltimore's 1st Mariner Arena. The Blast will look to sweep the season series against Syracuse.
