Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (February 1, 2013) - Quad City Mallards forward Mickey Lang has been named Easton Central Hockey League Player of the Month for January, the Mallards announced today in conjunction with the Central Hockey League.

Lang, 26, ripped off eight goals and eight assists for total of 16 points in nine games while posting a plus/minus rating of +5 in January.

"Mickey has done a great job for us not just in the last month but all season," said Mallards head coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski. "He always works hard in games and always works hard in practice. He's a player who does his job properly no matter what the situation is- his regular shift or on the power play or the penalty kill. Off the ice, he's always smiling and always in a good mood but at the same time he loves to win."

Player of the Month recognition caps off what was already a banner January for Lang. The Reno, Nevada, native was named CHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 20 after producing a natural hat trick and six points- the highest single game total in the league this season and the most recorded by a Mallard in one game in over six years- in a January 19 win over the Denver Cutthroats. In the wake of that eruption, Lang was called up to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, for whom he made his AHL debut last Friday night against the Chicago Wolves. He then returned to the Quad Cities in time to cap off the month by extending his point-scoring streak to nine games- the longest such streak by a Mallard this season- by scoring his league-leading fourth shorthanded goal and adding an assist in the Mallards' 8-2 rout of the Bloomington Blaze last Tuesday.

In addition to topping the CHL in shorthanded goals, the 5' 10", 174-pound Lang ranks third in goals (23), is tied for fourth in points (49), is tied for sixth in power play goals (6) and is tied for tenth in plus/minus (+12). Lang has missed only a pair of the Mallards' 41 games this season- a two-game absence that resulted from his AHL call-up.

Lang returned to the Mallards this year after scoring 19 goals and totaling 40 points in 61 games as a rookie last season. He capped of his first pro campaign by earning CHL Rookie of the Month and CHL Oakley First Star honors for March.

Lang enjoyed four standout seasons at Division III Manhattanville College before turning pro. He was named to the All-ECAC West Conference second team in each of his final two seasons as a Valiant. Lang, who scored 16 times and produced 27 points in 24 games as a senior in 2010-11, finished his collegiate career ranked second in school history in goals (47). In all, he totaled 93 points in 88 games for Manhattanville.

The Mallards hit the road to take on the Missouri Mavericks tomorrow night before returning home next Tuesday evening at 7:05 p.m. for a rematch with the Mavericks. Next Tuesday night is also a 2-for-Tuesday- sodas and beer will be available for just $2 at i wireless Center concession stands during that game.

Tickets for next Tuesday's tilt- as well as seats for all remaining Mallards regular season home games- can be purchased in person at the i wireless Center ticket office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000. The ticket office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on game days from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the second period.
