Champion, 25, comes off a successful 2012 season as an ace with the Evansville Otters of the independent Frontier League, going 8-5 with a 3.06 ERA. After converting to a starting role midseason, Champion started 13 games and went 6-4 with a 2.85 ERA.
"I'm excited for what Adam can bring to our pitching staff," Pheasants manager Steve Shirley said. "We expect him to compete for a starting spot this spring and hope he can contribute in big ways."
The Houston Astros selected Champion in the 24th round of the 2010 amateur draft out of the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. The Evansville, Ind., native spent two seasons at the Astros' Class A levels. For his career, he has a 12-10 record with a 3.83 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 183 innings pitched.
Trajano, 23, is a true rookie from Cal State-Fullerton. In two seasons and 75 games with the Flyers, Trajano batted .293 with 29 RBI and eight doubles.
