Peterborough to Host Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada on CBCJanuary 29, 2013 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Peterborough Petes Press Release
The national broadcast features Ron MacLean and other Hockey Night in Canada personalities and NHL alumni as they connect Canadians to our national pastime through communities stories from across the Country. The daylong broadcast includes triple header NHL action as all seven Canadian teams will be featured including Edmonton at Detroit (2:00pm ET), Winnipeg at Ottawa (2:00pm ET), Toronto at Montreal (7:00pm ET), and Calgary at Vancouver (10:00pm ET).
Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada begins at 12:00 pm with a two part feature entitled "Celebrating the Game" to be broadcast live from the Under the Locks outdoor hockey tournament on the Trent-Severn Waterway at the world famous Peterborough Lift Lock National Historic Site. The second part of the feature airs at 5:00 pm following the conclusion of the Edmonton at Detroit and Winnipeg at Ottawa games. "Coaches Corner"-presented by Budweiser with Don Cherry and Ron MacLean, Hotstove, and the "Chevrolet I-Desk" with CBC celebrities and commentators will be broadcast live from the Peterborough Memorial Centre and on Saturday night when the Peterborough Petes host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds where Ron McLean will introduce Don Cherry during the opening ceremonies of the Petes annual fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. This year's event is titled "Pink in the Rink - A tribute to Hockey Moms".
The Under the Locks Hockey Tournament is a uniquely sanctioned outdoor natural ice hockey tournament and draws boys and girls teams from all over Ontario. Children age 7-17 play the game of hockey on five separate rinks temporarily set up on the canal at the foot of the "Lift Locks". This year's tournament features sixty-two teams.
