Earthquakes Arrive in Arizona

The Earthquakes arrived in Tucson, Ariz. on Monday to open a six-day stay for the Desert Diamond Friendlies. San Jose opens with the Houston Dynamo on Tuesday at 2 p.m. PT and closes with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday at 10 a.m. PT. Both games will be played at the Kino Sports Complex and will be livestreamed at www.mlssoccer.com.

Doyle Nominated for National Soccer Hall of Fame

Earthquakes general manager John Doyle is among 15 names on the National Soccer Hall of Fame ballot for veteran players. Doyle has been a key piece of the U.S. Soccer landscape on a number of different levels. The former University of San Francisco All-American enjoyed one of the most decorated playing careers in U.S. soccer history. Doyle first began training with the U.S. national team in 1987 and was a member of the squad until 1994. He played in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 1990 World Cup in Italy, as well as the 1991 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Doyle earned 53 caps for the U.S., notching three goals and two assists. He has been a part of the Earthquakes' staff as a player, coach, television analyst and general manager and resides in the club's Hall of Fame. Voting is open to select individuals through Feb. 22.

Camp Injury Report

Five players underwent offseason surgery and a sixth continues to recover from an injury sustained during the 2012 season. Sam Garza is has been a full participant so far following a procedure on his right wrist. Meanwhile, Steven Lenhart (right knee arthroscopy), Cesar Diaz Pizarro (right knee arthroscopy) and Alan Gordon (left hip arthroscopy) continue to rehab from their offseason surgeries. Mehdi Ballouchy is back on the training field participating in light conditioning drills as he continues to progress following a torn anterior-cruciate ligament he suffered in a 3-3 draw against FC Dallas on Sept. 29, 2012.

Bernardez Called to Honduras Duty Ahead of World Cup Qualifier Against United States

Earthquakes defender Victor Bernardez was among 23 names called to national team duty for Honduras ahead of a CONCACAF World Cup qualifier against the United States. Los Catrachos will host the Americans on Wednesday, Feb. 6 in the opening game of hexagonal play.

San Jose Signs Defenders Gargan, Harden

The Earthquakes added to their defensive depth late last week with the announced signings of right back Dan Gargan and center back Ty Harden. San Jose took the duo during December's MLS Re-Entry Draft. Gargan, 30, is a seven-year MLS veteran who spent his last two seasons as a member of the Chicago Fire. He has two goals and eight assists in 123 career appearances while splitting time with the Colorado Rapids (2005-08), Chivas USA (2008), Toronto FC (2010-11) and Chicago Fire (2011-12). Harden, 28, is a five-year MLS veteran who spent his last three years with Toronto FC. The 6-foot-1 center back has 74 appearances and 64 starts during his career.

Quakes Take Three in MLS Supplemental Draft

San Jose kept things local in last week's MLS Supplemental Draft, taking three players with California ties. That list included Stanford forward Adam Jahn (No. 15 overall), San Francisco native and Oregon State defender Colin Mitchell (No. 53 overall) and UC Santa Barbara defender Peter McGlynn (No. 72 overall). Each of the trio joined the Earthquakes in camp late last week and made the trip to Tucon, Ariz. for the Desert Diamond Friendlies.
