Mallards Blank Sundogs 5-0

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ- John Murray made 36 saves and Obi Aduba scored two goals and added an assist as the Quad City Mallards blanked the host Arizona Sundogs 5-0 Friday night to pull within two points of the eighth place Sundogs in the race for the final Central Hockey League playoff spot.

The Mallards were on the power play when Aduba's backhander from the slot opened the scoring at 12:09 of the first period. Aduba jabbed home a rebound to double the Mallard lead at 18:46 of the first.

The Mallards broke the game open with three second period goals. Just 19 seconds into the second, Patrik Levesque's breakaway goal stretched the gap to 3-0; Gabriel Boutin-Gagnon scored from the side of the net at 12:46; and Jason Kostadine made it 5-0 from point blank range at 18:04. Murray set the stage for the Mallards to build a commanding lead n the second by stopping 19 Arizona shots in the middle frame alone.

With the win, the Mallards close within a game of five hundred (17-18-4), improve to 38 points and position themselves to move into a tie with the Sundogs (18-20-4, 40 points) should they defeat Arizona in regulation in tomorrow night's rematch between the two clubs in Prescott Valley.

The Mallards next play at home next Tuesday night at 7;05 p.m. against the Bloomington Blaze. Next Tuesday evening will also see Mo Mallard welcome a host of other area mascots to the i wireless Center for All-Star Mascot Night.
