Grant Jr., Matthews, Merrill and Miller recognized for play in road wins

The National Lacrosse League has announced Player of the Week awards for Week #3 of the 2013 NLL regular season after all four away teams, three in dramatic comeback fashion, won on the road this past weekend.

Colorado Mammoth forward and reigning NLL MVP John Grant, Jr. won Offensive Player of the Week after scoring six goals, the most by any NLL player this season, in an eight-point performance (6 Goals, 2 Assists) last Saturday. Edmonton Rush rookie Mark Matthews, the first overall pick in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft, won Rookie of the Week after posting nine points (4G, 5A) on Sunday, the highest single-game point total in the league so far this year. Two members of the undefeated Philadelphia Wings, goalie Brandon Miller and transition player Brodie Merrill, were also recognized with awards at their respective positions after last weekend's win.

Offensive Player of the Week

John Grant, Jr., Colorado Mammoth: (6G, 2A, 1 LB): Grant, Jr. recorded eight points (6+2) and one loose ball in Colorado's 13-12 overtime win at Calgary on Saturday.

Transition Player of the Week

Brodie Merrill, Philadelphia Wings (1G, 10 LB): Merrill recorded a goal and 10 loose balls in Philadelphia's 8-7 win at Toronto on Saturday.

Defensive Player of the Week

Brandon Miller, Philadelphia Wings (7.00 GAA, .883 SV%, 1W): Miller made 53 saves on 60 shots in Philadelphia's 8-7 win at Toronto on Saturday.

Rookie of the Week

Mark Matthews, Edmonton Rush (4G, 5A, 1 LB): Matthews recorded nine points (4+5) and one loose ball in Edmonton's 18-10 win at Washington on Sunday.

The NLL Player Awards are determined by a weekly vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.
