McGinn Goes to Philly: for Real this Time

January 21, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The Adirondack Phantoms have announced that LW Tye McGinn has been recalled by the Philadelphia Flyers, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

McGinn was just up with the Flyers last week for their training camp preparing for the NHL season but was returned to the Phantoms before the start of the NHL regular season. McGinn promptly scored goals in his first two games back upon his return to Adirondack. But now he gets to make the trip once again to join-the Flyers for his first ever regular season call-up.

McGinn has yet to play in the NHL. The second-year pro will have an opportunity to make his NHL debut this Tuesday night when Philadelphia travels to New Jersey to play the Devils. Interestingly, McGinn is coming off a weekend in which he played the Albany Devils twice. McGinn could make his Philadelphia home debut on Thursday when the Flyers host the New York Rangers.

Tye McGinn (33 GP, 11-4-15, 52 PIM) has increased his scoring production this year and has found a home in front of the net using his big body to screen goalies and dig out rebounds. His success in the first half of this season earned him the opportunity in last week's training camp and now for his first regular season recall and his potential NHL debut.

His older brother, Jamie McGinn, plays in the NHL for the Colorado Avalanche. Tye's younger brother, Brock McGinn, was a second-round selection of the Carolina Hurricans in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and currently plays for Major Juniors for the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League.

McGinn just played a game this past Saturday at the Worcester Sharks where Jaime McGinn was a star and is still one of their most popular alums. Jamie McGinn worked his way up to San Jose in the NHL before his trade to Colorado last year. Tye McGinn scored a goal against his brother's former team in that Saturday game.

McGinn joined the Phantoms last season following the completion of his junior career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He was selected by the Flyers in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

He will wear #15 with the Flyers.

Zac Rinaldo suffered a lower-body injury on Sunday in Buffalo. McGinn is being recalled as his replacement.
