The Solar Bears and Nailers come together for the second-straight game, after Orlando vs. WheelingOrlando earned a 7-2 victory over Wheeling on Thursday at the Amway Center. The Solar Bears opened up the game with three goals before the halfway point of the first frame, but Wheeling answered with two power play goals before the period expired as Orlando led 3-2 heading into the second period. Three more goals in second gave the Solar Bears a comfortable 6-2 advantage going into the third where they tacked on one more for the 7-2 win. F Micheal Neal paced the Solar Bears, scoring two goals and adding on three assists to set a new Solar Bears season high with five points in a game. Tonight's game marks the middle contest of a three game set that will conclude with a 3:00 p.m. game on Monday.
Solar Bears Notes:
The Solar Bears were not awarded a single power play during Thursday's game, marking the first time that a Solar Bears opponent was not whistled for a single penalty... Orlando has scored a combined 15 goals in their last two home games, winning those games by a combined 15-6 score... F Micheal Neal set two new season highs for the Solar Bears in Thursday's matchup with five points and a +6 plus/minus rating... C Dale Mahovsky also finished the game with a +6 rating... G John Curry is tied for third with 14 wins... Orlando announced earlier this month that the Solar Bears will inform the League of their intentions to place a bid to host the 2015 All-Star Game. The meetings will be held in Loveland, Colorado, during the All-Star break next week... LW Nick Petersen was named to the ECHL All-Star Team earlier this month, making him the first Solar Bear to be selected as an ECHL All-Star... The Solar Bears are expecting one of their largest crowds of the season tonight and encourage fans to get their tickets now. Good seats are still available, starting at $15.
Orlando Wears Pink for Second Straight Game:
Orlando will wear their pink jerseys again tonight to raise awareness for cancer research. The jerseys will be auctioned off at a later date, with the proceeds going to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Nailers Notes:
G Scott Darling is ninth in the league with a 2.53 GAA... The Nailers are missing their top two defensive scorers, as D Cody Wild and D Andrew Hotham... Wheeling has the third-highest rated power play in the Eastern Conference at 20.9 percent... Wheeling has played the most games past regulation, going to overtime or a shootout 12 times this season... The Nailers are 14-3-2 when scoring first... Wheeling is 7th on the power play at 20.9 percent (31-for-148) and 13th on the penalty kill at 82.6 percent (123-for-149)... F Paul Crowder leads the Nailers in goals (15), assists (16), and points (31).
