Johnstown Rips Soo, 6-2

The Soo Eagles had trouble finding ways to stop the Johnstown Tomahawks, which beat Eagles, 6-2.

Johnstown was led by Jaycob McCombs, who registered one goal. McCombs scored 3:06 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Johnstown.

The Tomahawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Johnstown found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Tomahawks average 3.2 goals per game. Johnstown's offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.7 shots per game it averages.

Johnstown also got points from Connor Wright, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Johnstown also had goals scored by Andrew McDonald, who had two and Brandon Reinholz and Mitch Kontny, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Johnstown were Zack Wallace, who had three and Casey Nelson and Corey Schafer, who each chipped in one.

Soo racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The Eagles had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. Soo's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Eagles give up 2.4 goals per game. By firing 35 shots on goal, Soo exceeded the 29.6 shots it averages per game this year.

The Eagles were led by Pat Thompson, who finished with one goal. Thompson scored 2:41 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Johnstown. Sean Murphy assisted on the tally. Soo also got a goal from Brandon Adams as well. More assists for Soo came via Jared VanWormer, who had one.

Chris Truehl made 33 saves for the Tomahawks on 35 shots. Johnstown totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Soo's starting goalie, Tyler Marble, made 17 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Zach Nagelvoort, who stopped 11 shots.
