Climie Shuts out Heat to Run Winning Streak to Three

January 13, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Chicago Wolves News Release

ABBOTSFORD, BC---Goaltender Matt Climie turned away 30 shots to lead the Chicago Wolves to a 1-0 victory over the Abbotsford Heat on Saturday night at Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

Forward Andrew Gordon's power-play goal in the final minute of the first period held up as the game-winner as the Wolves (17-12-3-2) defeated the Heat on the road for the second night in a row.

Climie (9-11-1), who has started 16 of the last 17 games for the Wolves, earned his second 1-0 whitewash against the Heat within the last month. He earned the other shutout on Dec. 19 at Allstate Arena.

While Friday night's game against the Heat was defined by forward Brett Sterling's natural hat trick in the first period, Saturday was all about the goalies.

The game's only score of the night began in the Wolves end, when Climie made the save on a shorthanded Heat breakaway and turned the puck back to his offense. Gordon did the rest, firing a power play-score past Abbotsford netminder Danny Taylor at 19:05 in the first period as left wing Bill Sweatt and right wing Darren Haydar picked up assists on Gordon's ninth goal on the season.

Abbotsford (17-12-3-4) started the second period trailing 1-0, but came out firing on Climie in search of the elusive tying goal. The Heat out-shot their visitors 30-15 for the night. Taylor (7-7-1) finished with 14 saves as the Wolves finished with a season-low number of shots.

The Wolves return to the Allstate Arena at 7 p.m. Wednesday to welcome the Texas Stars at 7 p.m. for the first of three Military Appreciation games. All veterans and active-duty military personnel can receive a complimentary ticket on Wednesday, Friday or Saturday by showing an ID card at the Allstate Arena box office.
