Soul Set To Host Blast In Hopes Of Equalizing Series

January 10, 2013 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Chicago Soul FC News Release

The Matchup

Friday, January 11 vs. Baltimore Blast - 7:30 p.m. (CST)

The Chicago Soul (5-9) will shoot for a repeat performance of their last meeting with the Baltimore Blast (12-2) on December 21 when they handed the Blast their first loss of the season with a 12-10 victory. The two squads will meet for the fourth and final time in regular season on Friday at the Sears Centre Arena. With the first two meetings resulting in losses for Chicago and the most recent in victory, the Soul will look to even the series with the Blast, who currently sit in first place in league standings.

On the Radar

Jeff Richey made history last Friday after a record-breaking 45-save performance that earned the Soul their first shutout in franchise history on an 11-0 victory over the Syracuse Silver Knights. Richey, who was named MISL Player of the Week earlier this week, broke the previous record in the league's current era, held by Jamie Lieberman of the Norfolk SharX with 38 last season against Syracuse.

Carlos Farias also played an integral role in the Soul's big win over the Silver Knights on Friday as he recorded six points, scoring one 3-point goal and assisting on three of Chicago's four other goals. Farias also had two key assists in the Soul's last meeting with the Blast. He currently ranks third on the squad in scoring with 27 points, behind Carlos Muñoz and Bato Radoncic who have 38 and 31, respectively.

To Be M.I.A.

The Soul will attempt to make up for quite a void this Friday as they may miss out on four key players.

Tijani Ayegbusi will serve his third and last game suspension after being dealt a red card on December 28 against the Missouri Comets.

Meanwhile, Roberto Gallo, who leads the squad in blocks with 16, will miss action for the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury sustained during practice.

Marco Sullo and Sean Summerville are questionable to play after Sullo also suffered a hamstring injury and Summerville sprained an ankle during practice. Both players are on day-to-day status and will be a game day decision.

The Competition

Since their last rendevouz with the Soul, the Blast have gone 2-2, picking up their first two losses to Chicago and Milwaukee, and then getting back on track with back-to-back wins over Rochester. The team is currently led by Machel Millwood, who ranks fourth among scoring leaders in the MISL with 44 points. Max Ferdinand follows with 32 points, and Tony Donatelli and Mike Lookingland have 31 and 30, respectively.
