IceCaps to Hold Benefit Luncheon for Special Olympics

The St. John's IceCaps and Newfoundland and Labrador's Special Olympics Association will join forces Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, for a special benefit luncheon.
This event will serve as a kickoff to the fundraising efforts of the provincial Special Olympics organization for 2013. All members of the St. John's IceCaps, including President and CEO Danny Williams, players, coaches and staff will be in attendance at the luncheon, slated for 1:00 p.m. at the St. John's Convention Centre.
Mr. Williams and Kevin Dunphy, chairman of the board of directors of Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador, will address the luncheon, which is expected to attract more than 200 people. A Special Olympic athlete will also speak.
The IceCaps players will accompany a Special Olympian to their respective tables while being introduced to the crowd.
"IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation are so proud of our association with the Special Olympics and the talented athletes within that organization," said the IceCaps President and CEO. "We feel sincerely honoured to have the opportunity to recognize the commitment and dedication of these outstanding individuals, and to kick start their fundraising campaign with this substantial contribution. I particularly love this event when I have an opportunity to meet many of the athletes, to hear firsthand their stories and to see on their faces a real passion for sports. They are truly an inspiration to us all."
Following the luncheon, Mr. Williams will present a cheque to Special Olympics on behalf of IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation.
