New Goalie Backstops Ice Flyers to 4-1 Victory over Augusta

January 4, 2013 - SPHL (SPHL) - Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

Pensacola, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers continued their winnings ways on the road with a 4-1 win in Augusta over the RiverHawks on Friday night.

The Ice Flyers newly signed goaltender, Gerry Festa, saved 27 of 28 shots he faced in his first start as an Ice Flyer, including an outstanding save part way through the second period that kept his new team up by one.

Ron Cramer scored his fourth of the season for Pensacola 12:44 into the first period, with assists from Jeremy Gates and Tyler Soehner. Augusta finally got one past Festa with just 30 seconds left in the second period.

Cramer was not finished for the night as he buried a shorthanded marker just over nine minutes into the third. Five minutes later, Ice Flyers' captain Leo Thomas completed a well-executed power play setup to put Pensacola up 3-1.

Augusta pulled their goalie early to try to make up the two-goal deficit, but Pensacola's leading scorer, Patrick Knowlton, took advantage of an Augusta turnover and put the puck in the empty net to finish off the game 4-1.

Pensacola went 1-for-5 on the power play, and Augusta went 0-for-4. Both teams had 28 shots on goal.

The Ice Flyers travel overnight back to Pensacola and play the Mississippi RiverKings at home Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. CST. Augusta hosts Columbus Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. EST.
