Quad City Mallards News Release
TULSA, Okla. - Ryan Menei scored two goals- including the third period game winner- as the host Tulsa Oilers overcame a Quad City Mallard comeback to claim a 5-3 victory Friday night. With the win, the Oilers halted the Mallards' three-game winning streak and their own nine-game winless streak.
Menei's tip-in broke a 3-3 tie at 9:28 of the third and set the stage for Michel Beausoleil's clinching empty netter with 30 seconds left after the Mallards had erased a 3-0 deficit by scoring three times in 61 seconds early in the third. Mike Stinziani scored from the slot to start the Mallard rally at 1:31. Just 44 seconds later, Jason Dixon jammed in the second Mallard goal and, a mere 17 seconds after that, at the 2:32 mark, Mike Hellyer one-timed the equalizer.
The Mallards found themselves in need of a rally after the Oilers scored once in the first period and twice in the second. Ryan Barlock scored the game's opening goal from the left wing boards at 18:19 of the first. Gary Steffes backhanded the second Oiler goal in just under the crossbar at 5:43 of the second. Menei stretched the Oiler lead to 3-0 by blasting a power play goal home from the right wing circle with just 33 seconds left in the middle frame.
The Mallards return to action tomorrow night on the road against the Wichita Thunder. The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday evening at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder. In anticipation of the culmination of the college football bowl season, the Mallards will offer $1 Nacho Bowls to all fans attending next Wednesday night's tilt.
