Texas Stars Release Cam Barker from PTO

CEDAR PARK, TX - The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that the club has released defenseman Cam Barker from his professional tryout contract.

Barker, 26, attended training camp with Texas on a tryout contract and originally signed a 25-game PTO with the Stars at the end of camp. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native made his Texas debut on October 13th at San Antonio and he appeared in 23 games for the Stars this season, leading the team in shots on goal (66) and recording eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) and 24 penalty minutes. Currently in his seventh professional season, Barker was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round (3rd overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and has played in 296 career NHL games with Chicago, Minnesota and Edmonton, posting 94 points (21 goals, 73 assists) and 286 penalty minutes. He played five years of junior hockey with Texas head coach Willie Desjardins, then bench boss for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League. Barker, who was a 2008 AHL All-Star with Rockford, won back-to-back goal medals with Team Canada at the 2005 & 2006 IIHF Under-20 World Championships.

The Texas Stars will complete their two-game road trip against Abbotsford on Saturday, December 15th as with a 9:00 p.m. CST opening faceoff at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Spots Centre. The Stars' next home game is scheduled for Wednesday, December 19th against the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Center for another Winning Wednesday and H-E-B Night.
