Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today that the St. Louis Blues have reassigned forward Sebastian Wannstrom to the Rivermen from their ECHL affiliate, the Evansville IceMen. The club has also reassigned forward Anthony Nigro to Evansville.
Wannstrom, 21, appeared in three games for Evansville during his assignment and registered a goal and a assist over that time. He made his North American debut with the Rivermen this season after spending parts of the past three seasons in the Swedish Elite League. In 16 games he has a goal and two assists with four penalty minutes.
The Gavle, Sweden native was originally drafted by the Blues in the second round, 44th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Nigro, 22, has appeared in 14 games with Peoria this season. He has a goal and an assist in his injury shortened campaign after suffering an injury during a preseason contest on Oct. 1. He was assigned to Evansville on Oct. 23 and made his ECHL debut the following day. He played three games for the IceMen and did not record a point.
The third-year pro has appeared in 143 games in his Peoria career and has accumulated 23 goals and 19 assists for 42 points along with 66 penalty minutes. Last season, Nigro set a career-high in goals (13), assists (12) and points (25) over the course of 75 games. The Woodbridge, ON native was originally selected by the Blues in the sixth round (#155 overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
