Rivermen Roll Past Barons 4-2

T.J. Hensick and Andrew Murray each had two goal games as the Peoria Rivermen beat the Oklahoma City Barons 4-2 on Tuesday at the Cox Convention Center. Goaltender Jake Allen made 26 saves as the Rivermen won for the third time in the first four games of their road trip.

Peoria is now 9-11-2-2 and just one point behind Milwaukee and Chicago for third place in the Midwest Division. The Rivermen are 3-1-0-0 on their current five-game road trip and have points in four of their last five games (3-1-0-1).

Edmonton Oilers draft pick and former Barons defenseman Taylor Chorney was a plus-3 in his first game back in Oklahoma City. The AHL's top two scorers, Jordan Eberle and Justin Schultz, as well as Taylor Hall were all minus-3.

The Barons opened up the scoring just 5:53 into the contest on the power play. Mark Arcobello made a cross-ice feed to Hall, who beat Allen under the glove for his sixth of the season. Schultz earned the secondary assist on the play.

The Rivermen responded with two goals, during a span of 1:54 in the second period, to take a 2-1 lead. On the power play, Murray backhanded the puck top shelf over Olivier Roy to tie the game. Jaden Schwartz and Mark Cundari earned the assists. At the 12:26 mark of the second frame, Hensick scored his sixth goal of the season to give Peoria the lead. Adam Cracknell and Jake Allen assisted on the tally.

At 19:17 of the second, Teemu Hartikainen tied the game on the man advantage. Hartikainen deflected a shot from Schultz with his shoulder past Allen for his eighth goal of the year. Hall also got credit with an assist.

Hensick scored his second of the night with 5:44 remaining in the third period to give the Rivermen a 3-2 lead. Hensick snapped one past the blocker of Roy to get his seventh goal of the season. Derek Nesbitt and Cracknell got the assists.

Oklahoma City pulled their goaltender to attempt to tie the game, but they allowed Murray to score his second of the night, into an empty net, to make the score 4-2.

The Rivermen outshot the Barons 34-28, while going 1-for-3 on the power play. Oklahoma City went 2-for-4.
