Offense Struggles As Havoc Drop Two

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Dan McWhinney did all he could in net for the Huntsville Havoc as the team managed just one goal in two road losses last week. The Havoc fell 2-1 on Friday night in Pensacola before getting blanked 2-0 by the RiverKings on Saturday night.

Friday, December 7 - Huntsville 1, Pensacola 2

PENSACOLA, FL - Brent Sands racked up one point to lead the Pensacola Ice Flyers to a 2-1 victory over the Huntsville Havoc.

Pensacola forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and four majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Flyers surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Pensacola put 51 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.4 it averages per game.

Pensacola also got points from Jordan Chong, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Ryan Raven, who had one.

Huntsville was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and four majors for 66 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game the Havoc had been spending in the box. Huntsville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Aaron McGill, Matt Smyth and Kyle Laughlin took 13 of the team's 23 shots.

The Havoc were led by Brad Cooper, who scored the team's only goal. Cooper scored 3:22 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Colin Reddin picked up the assist.

Steve Christie made 22 saves for the Ice Flyers on 23 shots. Pensacola registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. The Ice Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gabriel Boutin-Gagnon was ejected from the game. Huntsville's Dan McWhinney stopped 49 shots out of the 51 that he faced. The Havoc registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. For Huntsville, Bill Baker was ejected from the game.

Saturday, December 8 - Huntsville 0, Mississippi RiverKings 2

SOUTHAVEN, MS - Mississippi RiverKings used a sparkling performance by Matthew Krahn to take down the Huntsville Havoc, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Mississippi RiverKings' 2-0 shutout victory.

Mississippi RiverKings was paced by Todd Hosmer, who tallied one goal. Hosmer scored 19:00 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Matt Whitehead assisted on the tally.

Mississippi RiverKings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Huntsville to score on any of its three power plays. Mississippi RiverKings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.1 shots per game it averages.

Darrell Stoddard also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Andrew Randazzo and Kyle Lundale, who each chipped in one.

The Havoc put 26 shots on net during the contest, more than the 20.9 they average per game.

Huntsville was led by Kyle Laughlin, who took five shots.

Krahn rejected 26 shots on goal for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Havoc's Dan McWhinney stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Huntsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
