Winterhawks Defeat Tri-Cities 4-1 Sunday

Nic Petan and Derrick Pouliot each registered three points as the Portland Winterhawks (25-5-1-0) earned a 4-1 road win over the Tri-City Americans (18-12-1-1) Sunday night in Kennewick, WA.

The Winterhawks took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Nic Petan and Derrick Pouliot, before the Americans cut it to 2-1 at the 16:12 mark on a goal by Beau McCue, a score that would last through the end of the frame.

The Hawks then struck for two quick power play goals early in the second- first Petan notched his second goal of the night 3:57 into the frame, then Seth Jones scored 21 seconds later to give Portland a 4-1 lead they took into the third period. The Hawks controlled play throughout the frame with a 16-5 advantage in shots on goal.

The two teams then played a scoreless third period as the Hawks finished with the 4-1 win.

Petan had two goals and an assist for three points in the win, while Pouliot also had three points had a goal and two assists. Seth Jones registered a goal and an assist and now has a nine-game point streak, with two goals and 12 assists for 14 points.

Brendan Burke earned the win in net, making 25 saves on 26 shots. Eric Comrie took the loss with four goals allowed on 36 shots.

Portland was 2-4 on the power play and a perfect 5-5 on the penalty kill.

The Hawks return to the ice Friday when they take on the Everett Silvertips at 7 p.m. at the Rose Garden.
