Tri-City Storm News Release

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm (11-11-2) got their highest offensive output of the season to defeat Team USA (5-13-1) on Saturday afternoon at the Viaero Event Center.

Storm forward Jared Linnell struck twice, while forwards Heikki Liedes and Kyle Eastman got their first goals of the season during a second period in which the Storm scored five unanswered goals.

Team USA got an early lead when center Jack Eichel scored the first two goals of the game, making it 2-0 in favor of the USNTDP.

But Liedes got an offensive zone turnover and beat Team USA goalie Henry Dill to put Tri-City on the board 5:15 into the second, cutting the lead to 2-1 and giving the Storm a huge boost of momentum.

Just 1:26 later, Eastman tipped a puck into the back of the net after a shot from Johnny Hrabobvasy to tie the game at 2-2. Defenseman Josh McArdle was credited with the second assist on the play.

The Storm took the lead just under two minutes later when Linnell scored his first of two goals on the afternoon. During a power play opportunity, Linnell stopped at the top of the right circle and sent a puck right over Dill and into the back of the net.

The North Pole, AK native got his second tally when he tipped home a shot from defenseman Garrett Cecere at 10:47 of the middle frame. Linnell now has 10 points on five goals and five assists in his first six games.

Michael Vecchione capped off the scoring in the second period with his eighth goal of the season at 13:58. Vecchione took a pass from Tim Bonner and went to the front of the net, where he beat Dill. Trevor Moore was also credited with an assist on the play.

Ryan MacInnis scored a third period goal for Team USA to make it 5-3, but the Storm responded with a final goal from Tim Bonner to seal the win. The goal was Bonner's seventh of the season and assists were given to Moore and Vecchione on the play.

The Storm will stay in Kearney this week as they will welcome the Waterloo Black Hawks to town for two games next weekend at the Viaero Event Center. Friday's game gets underway at 7:30 p.m., while Saturday's affair will start at 7:05.

Notes: The Storm scratched forwards Garrett Gamez, Joel L'Esperance and Brian Ward along with defenseman Eli May and goaltender Christian Frey.
