Wranglers Prevent Shutout, Fall 3-1 to Thunder

Stockton, Calif. - In the first of a two-game road series, the Las Vegas Wranglers fell 3-1 to the Stockton Thunder tonight.

The first period was scoreless as the Thunder outshot the Wranglers 12-8 through the opening 20 minutes. Midway through the second, Stockton began a scoring streak off the stick of center Phil Mangan, giving the team the 1-0 lead. In the final minutes of the period, Thunder center Harrison Reed tallied a goal and another from right wing Toni Rajala 1:16 later put the Wranglers in a three-goal deficit going into the third.

Las Vegas went on a shot blitz in the final period, recording a final count of 20-4, in an effort to avoid a shutout. With less than seven minutes remaining, Wranglers center Chris Francis notched the lone Vegas goal to make it a 3-1 game. While getting 39 shots on net compared to Stockton's 25 in the end, the Wranglers couldn't overcome the three-goal second period and fell 3-1.

The two teams rematch tomorrow night in Stockton, and the Wranglers return home for a two-game weekend series against the Idaho Steelheads on Friday, Dec. 7, and the Thunder on Saturday, Dec. 8. Tonight's full box score can be found here .
