Weekly Update: Rapids Players Begin Training with Derby

AKPAN, CASCIO, KLUTE AND RIVERO TRAINING WITH DERBY COUNTY: Colorado Rapids players Andre Akpan, Tony Cascio, Chris Klute and MartÃ-n Rivero arrived in Derby, England this weekend to begin training with Derby County F.C. of the English Football League Championship. The four players will train under manager Nigel Clough through December 12 before returning to the United States, gaining experience at one of the oldest and most storied soccer clubs in the world. Visit www.ColoradoRapids.com to follow their experience overseas, as well as goalkeeper Steward Ceus who is currently training at Sunderland of the English Premier League.RAPIDS ACQUIRE MIDFIELDER ATIBA HARRIS FROM VANCOUVER: The Colorado Rapids today acquired midfielder Atiba Harris from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for an international roster spot for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, an extension of the spot traded to the Whitecaps for allocation money prior to the 2012 season. Harris, from Saint Kitts and Nevis, is entering his eighth MLS season, having scored 17 goals and added 19 assists in 138 matches (109 starts) with four different clubs.
TICKETS NOW ON SALE FOR RAPIDS PRESEASON MATCHES IN TUCSON: Tickets to the Colorado Rapids' preseason matches in Tucson this February against the Portland Timbers and the Houston Dynamo went on sale today via FC Tucson, who is organizing the Desert Friendlies. The Rapids will take on the Timbers on Tuesday, January 29 at 11 a.m. MT and the Dynamo on January 31 at 6 p.m., with tickets starting at just $10. Click here to purchase tickets.
RAPIDS PREPARE FOR RE-ENTRY DRAFT THIS WEEK: With the roster freeze lifted today, the Colorado Rapids technical staff has begun building the squad for the 2013 season, and is preparing for the Re-Entry Draft on Friday. The Rapids had previously announced that Conor Casey, Tyrone Marshall, Joseph Nane, Ian Joyce, Tyson Wahl and Scott Palguta would be eligible for the Re-Entry Draft. Today, Technical Director Paul Bravo confirmed that the club is in negotiations for new contracts with defenders Marvell Wynne and Hunter Freeman and midfielder Jamie Smith. RAPIDS HAVE SIXTH OVERALL PICK, THREE PICKS IN FIRST TWO ROUNDS OF SUPERDRAFT: The Colorado Rapids hold the sixth overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, which will be held on January 17 in Indianapolis, as well as a pair of second round selections (25th and 30th overall).
