Arizona Sundogs News Release

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs beat the Allen Americans tonight in a 4-2 win at the Allen Event Center and snaps their three game losing skid.

The Sundogs and Americans met for the sixth time this season on Saturday night. Mario Larocque was back on the roster after receiving a two-game suspension for causing injury to an unsuspected opponent during their November 23rd game against the Americans. At the end of the first period neither team had scored, while Allen out shot Arizona 15-5. The game seemed to pick up momentum when Kip Brennan laid a hard check to Sundogs' Jeff Kyrzakos. Allen was unable to take advantage of their opportunities to score in the first when Brett Skinner fired the puck on Arizona's netminder David Brown which was kicked away and then Scotty Howes came in with the rebound but was covered up.

Both teams came into the second period looking for the lead. The Americans' Kip Brennan was knocking on the Sundogs' door when he let a shot off from just outside the crease but was denied by Brown as he made the glove save of the night. Moments later Arizona recorded the first goal of the evening when Chad Nehring buried the puck in the net. Allen quickly followed it with a goal when Mike Montgomery and Anthony Maiani scored within 48 seconds of each other. Maiani's goal came during a breakaway when he juked from the left and was able to divert Brown.

The Sundogs returned to the third period down by a point and looking for an opportunity. Arizona's Kevin Petovello came out 42 seconds into the final 20 minutes with a wrister but was gloved down by Aaron Dell. Jake Hauswirth with an assist from Adam Smyth tied the game 2-2 giving the Sundogs the advantage they were looking for. Derek LeBlanc was credited with the game winning goal as he registered Arizona's third goal of the evening and Kyle Hood scored the Sundogs' fourth goal when he fired on an empty net.

Allen lead, shots on goal tonight outshooting Arizona 37-31. Neither team scored on the power play tonight, Arizona 0-1 and Allen 0-4. This was the first time that the Americans have lost by more than a point this season and the second loss for them in two nights. Arizona finishes their road trip in Tulsa when they meet the Oilers tomorrow at the BOK Center.
